Doctor of Medicine Proves New Jogging Training Method More Effective In Improving Fitness

Located in the Hall Lt.3, Udayana University Postgraduate Building, Denpasar Campus, a Doctoral Promotion examination took place with Promovendus candidate I Gusti Putu Ngurah Adi Santika, S.Pd., M.Fis with the dissertation title "Jogging Training Combination Sprint Interval 50 Meters 8 Repetitions 2 Sets Better Than 100 Meter Interval 2 Repetitions 4 Sets Against Body Fat Percentage, Total Cholesterol And VO2max". (31/1/2024)

Health and fitness are important aspects for us as humans. By exercising our bodies are expected to be in a healthy and fit state. One of the best ways to improve the body's ability to ward off health problems is by exercising. Disrupted routines make changes in human habit patterns in carrying out their activities and have an impact on body health. This study aims to prove that jogging training combined with sprint interval 50 meters 8 reps 2 sets is better than 100 meters interval 2 reps 4 sets in reducing body fat percentage, total cholesterol and VO2Max.

This study used a Randomized Pre and Post-Test Control Group Design. The sample amounted to 36 sports students, divided into two groups by random allocation, each group numbered 18 people. The Treatment Group was given a jogging training combination of 50 meter interval sprints 8 repetitions of 2 sets. The Control Group was given a jogging training combination of 100 meter interval sprints 2 repetitions of 4 sets. Before and after training, body fat percentage, total cholesterol and VO2Max were measured. The effect of intervention was analyzed using Paired t test and Independent t test. The significance used was α=0.05.

The results of the study from 6 weeks of training showed that there was a decrease in body fat percentage in the Treatment Group better than the Control Group with a mean decrease in the Treatment Group 6.45 ± 0.42% decreased 24.58% and the Control Group 3.52 ± 0.59% decreased 13.39% which was significantly different with a value of p = 0.000 (p & lt; 0.05). There was a decrease in total cholesterol in the Treatment Group with a mean decrease of 39 ± 2.62 mg/dl down 18.57% and the Control Group 31 ± 2.37 down 14.90% which was significantly different with a value of p = 0.000 (p & lt; 0.05). There was an increase in VO2Max in the Treatment Group with a mean increase of 10 ± 0.45 ml / kg / min increased 25.70% and the Control Group 7.3 ± 0.46 ml / kg / min increased 18.38%, and found the mean VO2Max which was significantly different p = 0.035 (p & lt; 0.05).

It was concluded that jogging training combined with 50-meter interval sprints of 8 repetitions of 2 sets reduced the percentage of body fat and total cholesterol and increased VO2Max better than jogging training combined with 100-meter interval sprints of 2 repetitions of 4 sets.
