Udayana University's DRTPM Catalyst Program Holds Research Focus Group Discussion on Marine Tourism Policy
The Catalyst Scheme Research Team of the Institute for Research and Community Service at Udayana University (LPPM Unud) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) "Reconceptualization of Sustainable Marine Tourism Destination Development Policy in Nusa Penida Bali within the Framework of the World Tourism Code of Ethics," on Tuesday, November 12 2024, at the FOX Hotel Jimbaran Beach, which was officially opened by the Chair of LPPM Unud Prof. Dr. Drh. I Nyoman Suarsana, M.Si.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of LPPM Unud appreciated the initiative of the Research Team to submit this research so that it could be funded by the Directorate of Research, Technology and Community Service Research, Technology and Community Service (DRPTM) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology in the Scheme Strategic Research Collaboration (CATALIS). The Chairman of LPPM also said that this research further adds to Unud's contribution to Nusa Penida because LPPM has continuously collaborated with various local villages to organize various research and community service programs in Nusa Penida.
The Udayana University Research Team consists of I Made Budi Arsika (Faculty of Law), Dr. Drs. I Made Sendra, MSi (Faculty of Tourism), and Dr. Pande Gde Sasmita Julyantoro, S.Si., M.Si (Faculty of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries).
In the report presented at the opening session, Chief Researcher I Made Budi Arsika, SH, LLM said that the implementation of this research was a collaboration between the Unud Team and the Research Team from LPPM Soegijapranata Catholic University Semarang and LPPM Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta in a Tourism Development Policy research consortium Sustainable: Strengthening Marine Tourism Destination Branding and Local Wisdom in Nusa Penida.
In this consortium, the Udayana Team focused on the sub-theme "Reconceptualization of Sustainable Marine Tourism Destination Development Policy in Nusa Penida Bali within the Framework of the World Tourism Code of Ethics" which in carrying out its research carried out observations and collected data/information regarding marine tourism policies in Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida and explore good practices for marine tourism management in Labuan Bajo-West Manggarai in October 2024.
The FGD presented four resource persons, namely Ida Bagus Adi Laksana, SE., M.Si (Head of the Destination Division of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office), Ir. I Nengah Bagus Sugiarta (Head of UPTD Conservation Area for the Marine and Fisheries Service of Bali Province), Ni Made Sulistiawati, SH, MH (Head of the Klungkung Regency Tourism Office), and Drs. Anak Agung Gede Putra Wedana (Head of the Klungkung Regency Food Security and Fisheries Service).
FGD participants consisted of officials and staff from the Bali Province Maritime and Fisheries Service, Klungkung Regency Tourism Office, Nusa Penida Tourism UPT, Denpasar Coastal and Marine Resources Management Center (BPSPL). In addition, there were also the leaders and staff of the Regional Leadership Council of the All Indonesian Fishermen's Association (DPD HNSI) of Bali Province, the Association of Tirta Tourism Entrepreneurs (GAHAWISRI) of Bali Province, the Bali Professional Divers Association (P3B), PHRI of Klungkung Regency, and Ocean Gardener. From Unud, officials, lecturers and students from the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Tourism and Faculty of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries were also present.
The FGD activity was closed by the Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries who emphasized that this research would not only stop at producing output in the form of reputable journal articles, but wherever possible formulate policy recommendations that could be adopted by policy makers so that they would provide benefits to society.
