Take the Stigma Away from Mental Health, Faculty of Medicine Unud Holds the Latest Bali National Psychiatry Seminar 2
The Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University held the Bali National Seminar on Latest Psychiatry (BATIK) 2 which took place online via Zoom meeting, Friday (16/07/2021). This seminar lasts for 4 days from July 15 to July 18, 2021. The theme raised in this BATIK 2 seminar is "Take the Stigma Away from Mental Health, a Vision Hope".
Chairperson of the BATIK 2 Committee, dr. Luh Nyoman Alit Aryani, Sp.KJ(K) in his report said that the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University routinely organizes the latest Bali National Psychiatry Seminar (BATIK) every year. The Latest Bali Psychiatry (BATIK) 2 raised the topic of stigma which still complicates cases of mental disorders. Stigma both from family and society makes it difficult for sufferers to experience healing. This is due to the fact that there is still a lot of discrimination received by people with mental disorders in all fields. Through this national seminar, it is hoped that mental health practitioners will gain new knowledge and skills to deal with the influence of stigma on mental health programs comprehensively.
The President Director of Sanglah Hospital, dr. I Wayan Sudana, M.Kes. in his speech said that mental health problems are a global life crisis, the main problem globally is that cases that are not handled comprehensively accompanied by stigma on mental health are significant complications. This stigma has become one of the reasons why 1/3 of people with mental disorders in the world do not get adequate treatment.
This BATIK 2 national seminar discussed stigma comprehensively and holistically from the meaning and causes of stigma, how to handle and prevent and eliminate stigma in patients with mental disorders.
The same thing was conveyed by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. dr. I Ketut Suyasa that Psychiatry as a branch of medicine that deals with mental health is very important in the current situation, because the concept of healthy is not only physically and socially healthy, but also must be accompanied by good mental health to get a healthy concept that plenary.
The Covid-19 pandemic situation has had social, mental, cultural, political, economic and so on impacts, therefore one of our abilities in maintaining mental health is very important in a difficult situation like today.
While the Rector of Unud Prof. A A. Raka Sudewi in his speech said that the implementation of the BATIK 2 National Seminar is one of the activities to support the main tasks of Udayana University in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely Education, Research, and Community Service. In the midst of the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic, it has affected various aspects of life, one of which is mental problems for sufferers and the community who also have an impact on the conditions of this pandemic.
Present as the Keynote Lecture of the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia, I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, S.E., M.Si who brought the material "The Role of Mothers in Improving Mental Health Through Good Child Parenting.
In addition, the Head of the Bali Provincial Health Office, dr. Ketut Suarjaya, MPPM as the second Keynote Lecture which brought the material "Program for Handling Mental Disorders in Bali Province".
