Denpasar, The academic community of Agriculture Faculty celebrated National Farmers Day on Saturday, September 24, 2016. In commemoration of the National Farmers Day, the students of Agriculture Faculty from the various Student Organizations of Agriculture Faculty (OKFP) which includes Student Executive Board (BEM), Student Representative Council (BPM), Agribusiness Students Association (Himagri), Agroecotechnology Students Association (Himagrotek), Landscape Architecture Students Association (Himarsekap), and Student Press Institution (LPM) of Khlorofil took an action by giving fruit and vegetables free of charge to the students and surrounding communities. The distribution of fruit and vegetables took place at two points, the first point was located at the entrance of Udayana University and the second point was located at the front of Agrokompleks building. It was started at 7.30 a.m until 10 a.m.
The enthusiasm of the students, lecturers, and communities was excellent, in less than 3 hours, the fruit and vegetables have run out. “The enthusiasm of the campus communities as well as the surrounding communities is excellent, from a total of 125 kilograms of fruit and 12 baskets of vegetables have run out in a short time”, Widnyana Putra, the Chairperson of this event said. This student who comes from Tabanan said that the commemoration of the National Farmers Day can be used as a good opportunity to appreciate the farmers’ services in providing the daily food needs as well as the media to promote the Faculty of Agriculture to the communities. Furthermore, I Putu Edi Swastawan, the Vice Chairperson of Student Executive Board of Agriculture Faculty said that he is happy because all members of OKFP can unite for the success of this event. He hoped that the students and communities are more concerned with the agricultural sector. “I hope that the National Farmers Day is not only a written commemoration in the law, but also we as the young intellectuals should have a concern for the agricultural sector although not all of us can be directly involved with it,” he said.
