OFFICIALLY SNI CORNER LAUNCHED IN UDAYANA UNIVERSITY

Bukit Jimbaran - Udayana University (Unud) in collaboration with National Standardization Agency (BSN) launched SNI Corner at Udayana University Library Building, Bukit Jimbaran Campus, on Friday (13/10/2017). The event began with the signing of Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between the Head of Information and Documentation Center of BSN with the Head of Library Udayana University, and followed by the inauguration of SNI Corner. The series of events continued with the implementation of Training Of Trainers (TOT) Utilization of Standardization Information and Conformity Assessment Through SNI Corner. This is an implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding that signed between the parties on April 28, 2015.

Justinus Kristianto Widiwardono, MT as the Head of Information and Documentation Center of BSN expressed his appreciation to Udayana University which has established cooperation to form SNI Corner. The establishment of SNI Corner was an effort to bring SNI closer to the stake holders that located in Bali, especially Denpasar and surrounding areas. SNI Corner at Unud is the 6th SNI Corner which was inaugurated in 2017. Previously, BSN has launched SNI Corner in Solo, Tegal, Sukabumi, Padang, Magelang and Mataram. In total there are 24 SNI Corner that has been established since 2014 which until now amounted to 24 pieces. SNI Corner is expected to be docked throughout Indonesia as it is important in global competition, where some important things that must be paid attention are product price and product standard, and product quality.

Entering the era of ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) where more and more products are traded as well as competing workforce, for that need to be anticipated by improving product quality and human resources as the key to the success of the nation. Indonesia's vast territory so that not all stake holders can get SNI to Jakarta as the background of the development of SNI Corner. Through SNI Corner is expected the public can obtain SNI information without having to Jakarta. SNI Corner is also expected to be utilized by the academic community to increase the quality of human resources so they are ready to compete in the job market.

Rector of Unud, Prof. A.A Raka Sudewi in her speech conveyed, Unud is the second university in eastern Indonesia region that has SNI Corner, after previously realized in IPB, ITB and ITS. The existence of SNI Corner is very important for Unud in relation to national standardization. SNI Corner itself is a standardization information outlet and conformity assessment, which provides SNI documents with selected topics, laboratory directories and certification bodies, reference books and various multimedia standardization education, SNI promotion and streaming video.

The advantages of the application of SNI corner, especially in Higher Education such as traced documentation, and can be one of the reference materials for students, both in lectures and in conducting research. With the advancement of technology, especially those which support the field of information should be utilized as well as possible. Rector hopes that with SNI Corner, all Civitas Akademika and employees in Udayana University can utilize SNI Corner either in lecture or accreditation process in their faculty or study program so that it can give positive benefit for Udayana University development. (PR)
