Starting from a Thesis, Udayana University Law Faculty Students Register Telek Jumpai Dance as a Traditional Cultural Expression

Starting from the preparation of a thesis, Gede Ananda Eka Putra, a student of the Faculty of Law, Udayana University (Unud) successfully fought for the registration of the Traditional Cultural Expression (EBT) of the Telek Dance in the style of Jumpai Village to the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law (Kanwil Kemenkum) Bali because the Telek Dance in the style of Jumpai Village has not received legal protection.

This registration struggle is a follow-up and real step from the final assignment/thesis entitled "Implementation of Legal Protection for the Telek Dance in the Style of Jumpai Village as a Traditional Cultural Expression in Klungkung Regency". The preparation of this thesis was guided by Supervisor 1 (Prof. Dr. Anak Agung Istri Ari Atu Dewi, SH., MH.) and Supervisor 2 (Pande Yogantara S., S.H., M.H.).

Gede Ananda Eka Putra explained that the Telek Dance in the style of Jumpai Village, better known as the Telek Jumpai Dance, is a sacred dance that is held firmly across generations in Jumpai Village. The Telek Jumpai Dance also has distinctive differences from the Telek Dance in general. According to him, legal protection for the Telek Jumpai Dance is very important to prevent imitation or plagiarism of creative works.

"When an act of imitation occurs, the custodian will find it easier to prove and file a lawsuit because they already have evidence in the form of a Communal Intellectual Property (KIK) certificate with registration number EBT512025000075," he said.

In addition, the reason for registering this EBT is because of his concern for Balinese culture and traditions, protection of EBT can be an effort to maintain cultural diversity and maintain the integrity of a region's identity.
