President of Yamaguchi University Visits Udayana University, Gives Public Lecture for Medical Faculty Students

Jimbaran - President of Yamaguchi University Prof. Yukio Tanizawa, MD., Ph.D with Prof. Tetsuji Umaba (Professor Faculty of Economics), Hiroyuki Tanaka (Director, International Exchange Division) and Masahiro Ueda (International Planning Section, International Exchange Division) visited Udayana University (Unud), Thursday (14/9/2023). During his visit to Udayana University, the President of Yamaguchi University gave a public lecture for Unud Medical Faculty students which was held at Udayana University Hospital.

Also present at this Public Lecture were the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the Managing Director of Unud Hospital and Staff as well as lecturers and alumni of Yamaguchi University from Unud. The guest lecture on the topic Recent Advances in Diabetes Clinical Practice and Research was guided by moderator Prof. Dr. Dr. Ketut Suastika, Sp.PD-KEMD.

Prof. Yukio Tanizawa said that Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia (abnormally high blood glucose levels), caused by a lack of insulin action: decreased insulin secretion and/or impaired insulin action (insulin resistance) and can cause acute and chronic complications. In his presentation Prof. Yukio also explained the classification of Diabetes Mellitus, serum insulin and blood glucose levels in healthy individuals, the differences in the pathophysiology of diabetes and why diabetes is a problem as well as diabetes treatment.

After the guest lecture, the President of Yamaguchi University and his entourage also had the opportunity to inspect the polyclinics at Unud Hospital and the infrastructure they have, followed by a meeting with the Chancellor of Unud and staff at the Jimbaran Campus Rectorate Building.

Rector of Unud Prof. I Nyoman Gde Antara accompanied by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and the Rector's Spokesperson received the President of Yamaguchi University in the Rector's Living Room which was then followed by meetings and discussions with the Deans, Postgraduate Leaders and Managing Director of Unud Hospital in the Language Room of the Rectorate Building. On this occasion, the Rector introduced briefly about Udayana University and discussed opportunities for collaboration between the two universities, one of which was related to research collaboration.
