Udayana University Launches Master of Sustainable Development and Finance Study Program

Denpasar - Udayana University (Unud) held a launching event for the Sustainable Development and Finance Study Program for the Masters Program at the Udayana University Postgraduate Program in the Hall of the Postgraduate Building, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, Wednesday (30/8/2023). This launching event is also part of a series of the 61st Anniversary of Udayana University in 2023. The opening of this study program is an implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between Bappenas and Udayana University on National Development Planning Collaboration through Education, Research and Community Service; and Memorandum of Understanding between the Financial Services Authority and Udayana University on the Development of the Financial Services Sector, Sustainable Finance, Financial Education and Consumer and Community Protection in the Financial Services Sector.

Rector of Unud Prof. I Nyoman Gde Antara in his remarks said that the issuance of permits for this study program was classified as very fast since it was proposed in February 2023, obtaining recommendations from LLDikti Region VIII in April 2023, and issuing permits for opening on 6 June 2023. This shows that the opening of this study program was considered is very urgent because it is very much needed in its contribution to answering global, national and local problems related to the achievement of SDGs and the implementation of sustainable finance policies, which have become Indonesia's commitments.

We hope that the Sustainable Finance and Development Study Program, the Masters Program at Udayana University will be the FIRST Center of Excellence in Sustainable Finance and Development in Indonesia (even in Asia), and the SECOND in the world after The Master of Advanced Studies in Sustainable Finance and Development, Geneva Graduate Institute, Switzerland.

We hope that prospective new students will come from Fresh Graduates from all fields of knowledge, Provincial and Regency/City Bappeda employees throughout Indonesia, OJK employees, BUMN employees/employees, Regional Development Banks, BPRs throughout Indonesia, and we also plan to accept foreign students in class. International. In the 2023/2024 Odd Semester, we have accepted 24 new students for the Sustainable Development and Finance Study Program.

Permanent Lecturer in Study Programs from several faculties at Udayana University, namely the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and Faculty of Law. To enrich the competence of graduates, we also invited visiting lecturers and practicing lecturers from the Center for Sustainable Finance, SOAS University of London, I-SER University of Indonesia, IPB University, OJK Indonesia, and the SDGs National Secretariat of Bappenas.

"In the future we plan to collaborate with The Master of Advanced Studies in Sustainable Finance and Development, Geneva Graduate Institute, Switzerland and the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Japan and other leading universities in organizing international classes," said the Rector of Unud.

Head of the OJK Institute Department Dr. Agus Sugiarto, S.H., MBA. conveyed his congratulations on the opening of this study program while at the same time appreciating Unud for realizing this program which is the first in Indonesia. His party assessed that Unud had provided a concrete response on how to respond to government policy regarding sustainable finance in the form of education which might increase the level of SDGs problems. OJK will also strive to support the sustainability of this program.

Meanwhile, the Head of the SDGs National Secretariat, Bappenas, represented by Luhur Fajar (Expert for Project Development and SDGs Financing Hub Matchmaking) on ​​this occasion conveyed a little about what is being deepened regarding the development of future study programs in the context of contributing to research, development and community empowerment related to sustainable finance.

In this launching event, there was also a presentation of Sustainable Finance material from the OJK Institute and Sustainable Finance Policy Material from the Integrated FSS Surveillance and Policy Department (OJK).
