Visitation to the Proposed Implementation of Environmental Sciences Doctoral Program S3 level (PhD) Unud by Ministry of Technology Research, Technology, and Higher Education

Wednesday, July 1, the assessor teams of Higher Education did a visitation to the proposed program on Environmental Science Study Program S3 level (PhD) in the University. This event is a part of the issue of permit for new courses. The assessor teams attending the event were Prof. Dr. Adang Suwandi Ahmad (ITB), Prof. Dr. Ir. Syamsul Rizal, M.Eng (UNSIAH), Prof. Dr. Ir. Salengke, M.Sc (UNHAS), accompanied by two staffs from Directorate and Cooperation of Higher Education.

The event was opened by the Rector of Udayana University, accompanied by the Director of Udayana University Postgraduate Program. In his speech, Rector of Udayana University said that environmental science is very important in maintaining the environmental balances in this case generating new knowledge that can be applied to protecting the environment. He also hoped that the Doctoral Program in Environmental Sciences can be realized and the Higher Education issued a permit accordingly.

The speech was then delivered by the leader of the Assessor Teams, Prof. Adang. He said that environmental science is not only useful for the society but also for the state. Doctoral Program in Environmental Sciences in our country is very interesting, because it has particularly unique program compared to different countries and even Bali is the area of ​​tourism, he added. The assessors came to Unud to discuss the possibility of making enhancements and improvements of the proposal. He also expected that the program is able to create doctors who keep producing international publication and book articles.

The proposed Doctoral Studies Program (S3) in Environmental Science of postgraduate Program of Udayana University was then presented by the committee, represented by Prof. Dr. I Wayan Budiarsa Suyasa, the Head of Master Program of Environmental Science, Postgraduate Program,  Udayana University.  Prof. Budi explained about the legal basis of the proposed study program, benefits, vision and mission, purpose, specifications of the program, the curriculum, facilities and infrastructure. After the presentation, one of the assessors represented by Prof. Salengke read the minutes of visitation. Some points needed improving and adding. However, according to him, improvements that have to be made to Proposed Doctoral Studies Program (S3) in Environmental Science Postgraduate Program of Udayana University belong to medium category. Finally, a discussion session between the lecturers and assessors came into being. The event was closed by the Vice Director I Postgraduate Program Udayana University. (NE)
