The Importance of "Broadcasting Content Copyright Protection on Social Media", Udayana University and KPI Hold Seminar
Udayana University through FISIP in collaboration with the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission held a Seminar on Copyright Protection for Broadcasting Content on Social Media, Wednesday (11/05/2022), at the Nusantara Room, Agrocomplex Building, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar.
This seminar presented several speakers, namely the Director General of Information and Public Communication of Kominfo Usman Kansong, Intellectual Property Practitioner Dr. Justisiari P. Kusumah, Academician of Universitas Padjadjaran Prof. Dr. Ahmad Ramli with the Responding Director of Metro TV Program & Development Agus Mulyadi, and Representatives from Viva Group Adi Sumono and Indah Saraswati.
Commissioner of the Central Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), Yuliandre Darwis, Ph.D. in his speech expressed his appreciation to Unud who was willing to host this seminar and the speakers who attended. His party conveyed that many broadcasters broadcast youtube content that only listed the source without the creator, so that many content creators complained, as well as the TV industry felt that a lot of its content was taken by Youtubers. Of course, in broadcasting sources that come from social media, broadcasters need to be careful, because they can come from anywhere. Therefore, through the speakers who are present and have the capacity, it is hoped that they will get an understanding of these problems. KPI also hopes that the results of this seminar will be a conclusion that leads to policies.
While the Rector of Udayana University Prof. I Nyoman Gde Antara in his speech said that currently the public's need for access to broadcasting information is increasing. This causes broadcast content to be widely distributed not only through conventional platforms, but also through social media. In this reality, it is interesting to discuss how the copyright protection for broadcasting content is distributed through social media platforms. Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright states that copyright is the exclusive right of the creator that arises automatically based on declarative principles after a work is manifested in a tangible form without reducing restrictions in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations. Unfortunately, ideas cannot be protected by copyright because ideas are works that have not been realized in real terms.
This seminar is expected to be a dialogue space for practitioners in the field of communication and broadcasting media, academics, and students to exchange ideas related to broadcasting content copyright issues on social media. Of course, it is hoped that this seminar can help get the root of the problem and the best solution to later become a study material in order to encourage protection against the spread of broadcast content on social media.
The material presented by the speakers at the seminar was related to Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright; potential infringement of copyright, digital & broadcasting copyright, intellectual property and digital content supervision in Indonesia, followed by discussion.
