Community Service at Impos Beach, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara

 

The Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud) carried out community service activities (PKM) in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Mataram University (FK Unram). The flagship of FK Unud in the field of travel medicine has a similar scope to the flagship field of island medicine from FK Unram. This activity is coordinated by the Research and Community Service Unit (UPPM) of FK Unud as a realization of national superior PKM collaboration. PKM in the form of counseling and health checks for traditional divers was held on November 5, 2023, at Impos Beach, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. 

 

The event was opened by the Dean of FK Unud, Prof. Dr. dr. Komang Januartha Putra Pinatih, M.Kes., where in his remarks Prof. Januartha emphasized the importance of collaboration in realizing the vision of the institution and hoped that the excellent program collaboration activities between FK Unud and FK Unram could be carried out in a sustainable manner with a wider scope. 

 

This activity was filled by experienced speakers from the Travel Medicine Unit and the Islands Health Excellence Laboratory of FK Unram. 

 

The topics of the counseling given were Beware of Marine Animal Stings presented by IBN. Putra Dwija, Ph.D., Recognizing the Dangers of Barotrauma when Diving, and Physical Preparation before Diving presented by Govinda Vittala, S.Ft., M.Fis. While health examination activities are carried out by lecturers in FK Unud and PKM activities are also supported by educational staff in FK Unud. 

 

Mr. Fery as a representative of traditional fishermen said that this activity was very useful in increasing knowledge so that traditional fishermen could dive safely and hoped that activities like this could be carried out on an ongoing basis.
