Doctor of Medicine Proves Total Ergonomics Approach Can Reduce Fatigue and Increase Dentist Work Comfort

Located in the Postgraduate Program Building Lt. III Hall Room, Denpasar Campus, a Doctoral Promotion examination was held with the promovenda candidate, Ni Nyoman Kristina, SKM., MPH with the dissertation title "Total Ergonomics Approach Improves Physiological Response and Increases Work Comfort in Dentists Performing Dental Fillings at Denpasar City Health Center." (23/10/2023)

Until now, the application of the Total Ergonomics Approach based on ergonomic aspects has proven to be able to produce optimal improvement of work problems, has no impact in the future and can be carried out in a sustainable manner. The Total Ergonomics Approach is carried out based on aspects of Ergonomics, such as aspects: Nutrition, Work Attitude, Muscle Use, Environmental Conditions, Time Conditions, Information Conditions, Socio-Cultural Conditions, and Human and Machine Interaction are carried out based on priorities. And in this dissertation, the priority of problems to be improved is physiological response and work comfort based on 3 categories, namely urgent, essential and important.

The improvement of work procedures carried out in this dissertation is based on the SHIP Approach (Systemic, Holistic, Interdisciplinary, and Participatory). Finally, the priority of problem improvement is based on ergonomic aspects. So it is very appropriate that Work Procedures carried out with a Total Ergonomics Approach in the form of NutriDen, Work Attitudes and DentistExercise are used as a way to solve problems in the field.

Improvement of work procedures with a total ergonomic approach is carried out starting with work planning that considers aspects of Appropriate Technology (TTG): Technical, Economical, Ergonomic, Socio-Cultural, Energy Efficient, Environmentally Harmless and Trendy. The above improvements can provide convenience in implementing work procedures with the Total Ergonomics Approach in accordance with the principles of ergonomics, namely Effective, Comfortable Safe Healthy and Efficient (ENASE). The Total Ergonomics Approach with NutriDen, Work Attitude, and DentistExercise is very important to do. Unergonomic work attitudes, long working hours and repetitive movements in awkward positions are causes of increased musculoskeletal complaints, workload and fatigue.

This study aims to prove that the Total Ergonomics Approach can improve physiological responses and increase work comfort in dentists who perform dental implant services at the Puskesmas Dental Clinic. This research is a real experimental with the same subject design. There were 18 research subjects actively involved in this study who were taken by Simple Random Sampling. This study was conducted on dentists who performed dental implant services at the Puskesmas dental clinic from October 2022 - December 2022. Data were collected for four (4) consecutive days when working conventionally in Period 1 and working with the Total Ergonomic Approach in Period 2, then statistically analyzed with a significance level of p & lt; 0.05;

The results of statistical analysis prove: Total Ergonomic Approach with NutriDen, Work Attitude and Dentist Exercise after performing work procedures with the Total Ergonomic Approach can reduce musculoskeletal complaints by 7.28%; reduce workload by 4.46%; reduce fatigue by 8.23% and increase work comfort by 33.5%. It can be concluded that work procedures with the Total Ergonomics Approach are proven to improve physiological responses in the form of decreased musculoskeletal complaints, decreased workload, decreased fatigue and can increase work comfort in dentists who perform dental implant services at the Denpasar City Puskesmas Dental Clinic. The results of this study can be used as a clinical reference in improving physiological responses and work comfort for workers.
