COOPERATION WITH JICA, CFA UNUD HELD "WORKSHOP ON IMPROVING GROUND BASE DAMAGE ASSESSMENT ON PADDY FIELD"

Denpasar - Monday, September 17 2018 at the Agrokomplek Building Campus Unud Sudirman Denpasar, Center on Food Availability for Sustainable Improvement (CFASI) Unud held a "Workshop on Improving Ground Base Damage Assessment on Paddy Field". The workshop was opened by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Ir. I Nyoman Gde Antara, M.Eng lasted for 2 (two) days and followed by 40 participants consisting of the Agriculture Department and lecturers in the Udayana University environment by presenting 3 (three) speakers from outside the Unud namely Dr. Ir. Babe Barus, M.Sc from (Bogor Agricultural Institute), I Made Winantara, S.P. and Ketut Suwena, S.P. from (the Badung Regency Office of Agriculture and Food). The purpose of this workshop was to improve the observation of damage caused by pests and dryness of rice plants in Bali.

Prof. I GAA Ambarawati as Chairperson of the Committee said that this Workshop was part of the Satreps (Science and Technology for Research Partnership for Sustainable Development) project which was a collaboration between the governments of Japan and Indonesia within five years. In Indonesia, there are two universities involved, namely Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and Unud. The outcome of this project is the development of a damage assessment model on paddy fields known as an effective model for improving and disseminating agricultural insurance as an adaptation to climate change in Indonesia.

On the same occasion, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Nyoman Gede Antara hopes that the collaboration that will be carried out over the past five years can be utilized as much as possible by the CFASI Unud in contributing to agriculture, especially to the damage caused by pests and dryness of rice plants in Bali Province.
