In collaboration with the Faculty of Tourism, Udayana University, BULD DPD RI Supports Strengthening Regional Regulations for the Advancement of Bali Tourism

Jimbaran (30/8/2024) — The Regional Legislative Affairs Agency (BULD) of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) emphasizes the importance of strengthening regional regulations (Perda) in supporting the development of the tourism sector. BULD DPD RI underlines that the role of regional regulations is vital in creating a conducive environment for tourism growth and strengthening the competitiveness of tourist destinations amidst global competition. Tourism sector policies cannot be separated from the perspective of central-regional relations based on Law Number 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government.

As one of the DPD RI's complementary tools, BULD focuses on monitoring and evaluating draft regional regulations (ranperda) and regional regulations (perda) related to tourism. This was followed up by BULD based on the consideration that tourism is one of the engines driving the economy. On a more macro scale, the tourism sector has the potential to increase the country's foreign exchange earnings.

In order to support this, BULD DPD RI conducted a series of working visits to areas that have superior tourism potential. The purpose of the visit is to have direct dialogue with local governments, business actors and local communities in order to explore various inputs related to regional regulations that can encourage better tourism development.

In collaboration with the Faculty of Tourism, Udayana University, BULD DPD RI conducted data collection in the context of monitoring and evaluating draft regional regulations (ranperda) and regional regulations (perda) related to tourism. The event was warmly welcomed and opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Dr. I Wayan Suardana, S.ST.Par., M.Par who expressed full support for this initiative.

"We really appreciate the steps taken by BULD DPD RI in collaborating with academics to be actively involved in drafting regional regulations. "Through comprehensive research and analysis, we are optimistic that we can help local governments formulate more effective policies in advancing tourism and strengthening the competitiveness of local destinations," said the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism.

Chairman of BULD DPD RI, Ir. Stephen, B.A.N. Liow, M.AP, emphasized that Bali as one of Indonesia's tourism meccas has enormous potential with cultural, natural and local diversity. However, to maximize this potential, a strong legal umbrella is needed through regional regulations that are able to support various aspects of tourism management and promotion.

"Preparing good and comprehensive Draft Regional Regulations and Regulations is an important step in creating a conducive climate for sustainable tourism development. Through collaboration with the Faculty of Tourism at Udayana University, BULD DPD RI hopes to produce regulations that are more effective, research-based and responsive to real needs in the field. "We also encourage local governments to continue to improve and update existing regulations, so that they can be more adaptive to current developments and tourist needs," said Stefanus.

Furthermore, he realized the importance of a scientific approach in formulating tourism-related policies. Therefore, BULD DPD RI is collaborating with the Faculty of Tourism at Udayana University to provide research-based input that can enrich the substance of the Draft Regional Regulations and Regional Regulations. This synergy is expected to produce regulations that not only support the growth of the tourism sector, but also protect cultural values and environmental sustainability.
