GDLN Building Experiences Fire Resulting in Disruption of Udayana University's ICT Services, USDI Team Carries Out Data Recovery
Denpasar - Udayana University (Unud) experienced a fire at the GDLN (Global Development Learning Network) Building located on the Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, (16/7) afternoon. The fire burned down the 2nd floor of the building, where the server which is the ICT data center is located, resulting in disruption of digital-based services. The Denpasar City Fire Department team swiftly carried out the extinguishing.
Apart from that, the Police, BPBD, PLN and other related parties also went to the location until the fire was successfully contained. In this fire accident, the fire also burned the roofs of two 'Pelinggih' buildings at the Maha Widya Amrta Temple, which is located to the west of the GDLN Building. It was reported that there were no casualties in this disaster, but the losses cannot yet be estimated.
Rector of Unud Prof. Ngakan Suardana, who immediately went to the location after receiving the report, appealed to the entire Udayana University academic community and the surrounding community to remain calm and provide moral support for those affected. He also thanked the Fire Department, Police, BPBD, PLN, Transportation Department and all parties who responded quickly to this disaster. "Udayana University will immediately take further steps related to recovery and handling the impact of this fire," he said.
After the fire was successfully extinguished, the Rector of Unud immediately held a limited meeting with the leaders and related units to discuss further steps that would be taken to deal with the impact of this fire. The Rector has also issued a Circular regarding the disruption of Udayana University's ICT services to the academic community.
After the fire, the USDI Team (Information Resources Unit) coordinated with related parties according to directions from the Rector to restore ICT services at Udayana University. Through Backup Data stored in the Datacenter of the USDI Building, Jimbaran Campus, the Unud Website as the main door to ICT access was successfully restored two hours after the datacenter room caught fire, so that the page could be accessed to provide information to stakeholders regarding the disturbance that occurred. The team's next step was to mitigate servers and network devices at the fire location by moving them to the USDI Building in Jimbaran as an initial effort to save application data which had been used to support higher education Tridharma activities at Udayana University.
Chairman of USDI Unud Dr. Ir. Dewa Made Wiharta, ST., MT said that the USDI Team is currently working to clean servers and network devices from water and ash, through SOPs that have been discussed with the Server (Device) provider. The next step is data and application recovery both from Backup Data in the USDI Datacenter, as well as from data that can be recovered from servers that were previously mitigated from the fire debris. Among the services that can be used as of July 19 2024 are Web Unud, IMISSU Dashboard, and video conference applications.
In the next two days, efforts will be made to activate E-Payment, E-Registration, UTBK System and SIMDOS services. Furthermore, efforts will be made to activate other applications so that ICT services at Udayana University will gradually recover. "We and the USDI Team will make every effort to recover the data, so that the team will continue working this Saturday and Sunday," he concluded.
