BEM Ormawa Team, Faculty of Agriculture, Unud Wins 2nd Place in the Cultivation Category in the Village Empowerment and Development Program Innovation Competition

The Ormawa Team of the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Agriculture (BEM FP) of Udayana University (Unud) successfully won second place in the national level cultivation category in the 2023 Village Empowerment and Development Program Innovation Competition (LIP3D) which was held online by Yogyakarta State University on Saturday, 25 November 2023.

LIP3D is a national level competition held to foster ideas from the younger generation, especially student organizations (Ormawa) in empowering and developing villages. This year's LIP3D consists of 3 selections, including the first administrative selection which passed 98 teams out of 107 teams that registered. After passing the administrative selection, it was continued with a selection to assess the substance of the proposal which saw 54 Ormawa teams from various universities in Indonesia pass and were declared as finalists to take part in the final stage of presentation until finally the winner was announced.

The BEM FP Udayana University team raised the problem of coffee skin waste in Tambakan Village which can be used to make Biochar and Liquid Smoke. This innovation was initiated by seeing that coffee production in this village located in Buleleng Regency reached 35 tons per day. Each coffee production produces a large amount of coffee skin waste, plus this waste is not utilized and reprocessed optimally by the Tambakan Village coffee farmers.

Seeing this problem, the BEM FP Udayana University team took the initiative to put forward an idea in the form of inviting coffee farmers to reduce the amount of coffee skin waste by processing it into biochar (biological charcoal) and liquid smoke (liquid smoke) with simple tools while empowering the potential of Tambakan Village. It is hoped that this innovation can become a real idea to continue to provide benefits to coffee farmers and the community in Tambakan Village.

The BEM FP Udayana University team is chaired by Ni Kadek Mira Cahyani, with 13 team members including Dewa Ayu Putu Kanianita Sanjaya, Ida Ayu Made Intan Pujawati, I Putu Angga Saputra, Audry Haniyah Destiana, Putu Bagus Angga Saputra, Ni Made Nurani Wikantari, Ni Made Putri Pramesti Rahayu, I Komang Wahyu Utama Tirta, Putu Bujangga Wahyu Kharisma Putra, I Wayan Wirya Kusuma, Hilda Rahmawati, Ni Kadek Renita Indraswari, and Ni Kadek Pingkan Wulandari. Their success in this competition was of course achieved by the guidance and support of their supervisor, I Putu Wirya Suputra, S.P, M.P., M.Agr.
