Denpasar - Workshop on Preparing a Draft of Intellectual Property Proposals to Increase the Acquisition of Intellectual Property at the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University (Unud) was held in the Hall of the Postgraduate Building, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, Thursday (9/11/2023). The workshop, which was opened directly by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, was attended by Vice Deans, Study Program Coordinators, UP3M and UPIKS of the Faculty of Agriculture, as well as Lecturers and Students. The workshop, which lasted for two days, presented three speakers, namely Ir. Alex Rahman and Drs. Abdi Saputra Sembiring, M.Si from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property and Dr. Pande Gde Sasmita Julyantoro, S.Si., M.Si Head of the KI Center, Udayana University.
Committee Chair Dr. Ir. Anak Agung Istri Kesumadewi, M,Si in his report said that this workshop put forward the theme of Preparing a Draft Proposal for Intellectual Property to Increase Intellectual Property Acquisition at the Faculty of Agriculture, Unud, which was the first workshop on intellectual property at FP Unud. This theme is very important to remind university people that the creative works produced have the potential to be empowered and support the national IP-based creative economy program.
"The acquisition of KI is part of the target of the Main Performance Indicators of Higher Education which is one of the estuaries of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education activities. In connection with this, we are prioritizing this workshop to open the insight of lecturers and students and further motivate them to be more innovative in producing work copyright, as well as facilitating efforts to obtain protection for the results of the copyrighted work," said the Chair of the Committee.
Participants are expected to receive an outpouring of insight regarding KI from the speakers. They are also working on several simple patent and patent drafts as well as other creative works that can be produced from this workshop so that we provide one week of free time after the workshop for participants to prepare their drafts.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Gusti Ngurah Alit Susanta Wirya, SP., M.Agr in his speech said that this activity could certainly motivate us to increase intellectual property at Udayana University in general and at the Faculty of Agriculture in particular. If we see that up to now at the Faculty of Agriculture, Intellectual Property has not been a serious concern. Lecturers may have done a lot of research, published in journals, but they still don't have enough to register IPR. This year only six were recorded at the Unud KI Center from the Faculty of Agriculture. When compared to the number of existing international journals, this is certainly far away, which is why the Dean's attention is on how to increase this intellectual property.
Even though we know that there are many products that can be produced from the Faculty of Agriculture. We must pay attention to the products produced to be registered. Not only lecturers, many students also have products that can be registered. This registration is a form of protecting the results of all of our research. It doesn't have to be just products, thoughts and ideas can be registered too.
"Well, today we are starting to pay more attention to intellectual property, and I am targeting this not just for this year, so next year we have to pay attention too," said the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture.
After this activity next year, it is hoped that intellectual property will increase through assistance provided by resource persons from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property so that the targets for intellectual property at the Faculty of Agriculture can be achieved.
