Third ICAPFS, Develop a Green Livestock and Agro-industry Production Strategy through a Circular Economy System

Badung - The Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University (Unud) in collaboration with the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Andalas University, is holding the 3rd International Conference on Animal Production for Food Sustainability (ICAPFS) which will take place at the Bali Dinasty Resort on 7 to 8 September 2023. This time ICAPFS presents the Keynote Speaker, Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health with the topic "Developing Strategy for Animal Production and Green Agro-Industry Through Circular Economic System" which in this case was delivered by the Director of Animal Breeding and Production Drh. Agung Suganda, M.Sc.

The 3rd ICAPFS also presented six other Invited Speakers namely Prof. Dr. Loh Teck Chwen from Universiti Putra Malaysia (Utilization of Agro-Industrial Waste as Livestock Feed), Prof. Frederick Adzitey from the University for Development Studies Ghana (Meat Production), Dr. Naveen Kumar Vate from Centurion University of Technology and Management India (Green Agroindustry in Food Technology, Prof. Renato Andrin Villano from the University of New England Australia (Circular Economic System), Prof. Dr. Ir. I Gusti Ayu Mayani Kristina Dewi, MS. , IPU ASEAN.Eng from Udayana University (Sustainable Poultry Production and Recent Advances) and Prof. Dr. Ir. Mardiati Zain, MS from Andalas University (Animal Nutrition).

Dr. Ir. Budi Rahayu Tanama, S.Pt., MM., IPU., ASEAN Eng as Chair of the Committee said that this conference took the theme "Developing Strategy for Animal Production and Green Agroindustry through the Circular Economic System" and was held in collaboration with the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University and Andalas University Faculty of Animal Husbandry and supported by Musamus University, Halu Oleo University, Nusa Cendana University, Mataram University, Universidade National Timor Lorosae, Universiti Putra Malaysia, and AmancioNicolas AgriTourism Academy Philippines. This international conference was attended by 233 participants from various countries which were divided into 9 online parallel sessions and 5 offline parallel sessions.

President of ICAPFS Prof. Dr. Ir. James Hellyward, MS., IPU., ASEAN Eng said we are gathered here to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time to ensure a sustainable future for animal production and food sustainability. Over the past few years, we have witnessed increasing global awareness of the critical need to develop innovative, sustainable and ethical practices in animal production. The conference is an important hub for researchers, educators, policymakers and industry leaders around the world. We will engage in spirited discussions, exchange cutting-edge research, and explore transformative solutions that will shape the future of animal production for food sustainability. This conference is also proof of the collective commitment of higher education institutions around the world to do just that in addressing the global challenges of food security and environmental sustainability.

Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Unud Dr. I Nyoman Tirta Ariana, MS., IPU., ASEAN Eng as the host said, "This conference is proof of our firm commitment to encourage research and innovation in livestock production for the sake of greater food sustainability. The knowledge shared and relationships forged during this conference will strengthen the global network of scientists and practitioners and impact the lives of many people by contributing to a safer and more sustainable food supply. This activity will explore a variety of topics, from innovative farming practices and sustainable animal welfare to technological advances that increase productivity while reducing environmental impact.

Dr. Ir. ing. Uyung Gatot S. Dinata, MT, Chair of the LPPM, who in this case represents the Rector of Andalas University, said that Andalas University was the co-host of this conference. It is hoped that this conference can strengthen inter-university and sustainable collaboration in the future by bringing together ideas in overcoming urgent challenges related to food sustainability and global world challenges. This conference is expected to find harmony, balance between animal production.

Meanwhile the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Ir. I Gede Rai Maya Temaja, MP representing the Rector of Udayana University in his remarks said that along with the increase in population in the last decade, the demand for agricultural products in general has increased. Unfortunately this has a negative impact on the surrounding environment. Various strategies have been attempted to address the challenges of these changes, one of which is the application of a circular economy system in animal production and green agro-industry. This strategy is expected to generate economic growth by maintaining the value of products, materials and resources in the economy as long as possible, thereby minimizing social and environmental damage due to a linear economic approach.

"Through this conference, all participants who are members of researchers from various institutions and agencies can contribute to a new and up-to-date development strategy through a circular economy system on the issue of green livestock production and agro-industry," said the Vice Rector.
