Udayana University Hosts the Implementation of the 2nd International Seminar on Fish and Fisheries Sciences 2023
Denpasar – Implementation of The 2nd International Seminar on Fish and Fisheries Sciences (ISFFS) 2023 is an event for collaboration between the Indonesian Ichthyology Society (MII) and the Faculty of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Udayana University (FKP Unud), Udayana University Postgraduate Program, Fisheries Research Center, Resource Conservation Research Center Power of Sea and Land Waters; Biodiversity Indonesia (BIONESIA) and Jakarta Technical University. The second international seminar took place in the Hall Room of the Postgraduate Building, Unud, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, Tuesday (6/6/2023), with the theme "Resilience Management of Fish and Fisheries for Sustainable Blue Economy".
Dr. Dati Pertami as Chair of the ISFFS Committee in her report said that the implementation of this seminar was to provide a platform for academics, researchers, practitioners and the government to identify and explore issues, opportunities and solutions that encourage the long-term sustainability of fish and fisheries resources, especially in the tropics.
The seminar which took place in a hybrid manner presented two keynote speakers namely Dr.rer.nat Evy Ayu Arida, M.Sc (Head of the Research Center for Applied Zoology BRIN) and Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Nuarsa (Dean of FKP Unud), five invited speakers, 119 oral presentations, and 50 poster presentations. 16 countries participated as speakers and 13 countries contributed to the publication of international proceedings. Meanwhile, the five plenary speakers who attended this occasion were the inspirations, including Prof. Harry W. Palm, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurul Huda, Prof. Hyun Woo Kim, Samantha H. Cheng, Ph.D and Prof. Dr. Ir. Luke Adrianto.
Head of MII Prof. Krismono in opening this event said that we are in the right place and time to participate in this seminar. Together let's speed up the exchange of ideas and the promotion of good practices. Discussions and activities here will inform policies on sustainable development of fish resources, capture fisheries and aquaculture, biodiversity, and conservation.
Rector of Unud Prof. I Nyoman Gde Antara in his remarks said that this seminar would open the widest possible opportunity for our staff and students to participate, collaborate and contribute to the development of science and technology in the field of fisheries which can be utilized for community welfare and research development in accordance with the interests of society. local, national and international communities. The expected outputs of the 2nd ISFFS are scientific publications by Indonesian lecturers, researchers and postgraduate students which are published in SCOPUS-indexed international Proceedings (Q3) and accredited national journals.
"This is in line with the aim of Udayana University to increase the potential of its resources in producing international and national scientific publications. This intellectual property is for the benefit of society and to establish cooperation in various fields to improve the quality of the tri dharma of higher education," said the Rector of Unud.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, in his remarks which was read by the Head of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service for the Province of Bali, said that the ISFFS was the right forum to hear interesting presentations from experts in the field of marine and fisheries science based on their expertise, the latest research results, with various topics discussed including biodiversity. and conservation, biotechnology, disease fish, fisheries management, marine ecotourism and more. His party encourages that through the implementation of this international seminar it will encourage all participants to engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration, in-depth discussions, exchange knowledge and share innovative ideas. “I believe that by sharing knowledge and experiences from different countries, institutions, scientists and individuals, through collaborative research and innovation, we will be able to come up with better solutions and come up with much more effective strategies. Policy making in the field of fisheries in the future will also be more holistic, scientifically based and accountable," he said.
