Neurosurgery Specialist Study Program, Faculty of Medicine Udayana University Held "Brain and Spine Cadaver Dissection Sourse"

The Neurosurgery Specialist Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University/Sanglah Hospital held a Brain and Spine Cadaver Dissection Course on Saturday, June 18, 2022 - Sunday, June 19, 2022. The entire series of events was held live from the Anatomy Lab, Campus of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Jalan PB Sudirman, Denpasar and broadcast live streaming through the Youtube channel "UNUD Neurosurgery".

One of the duties of general practitioners is to continue to develop knowledge in the field of medicine. This activity was held in the context of Continuing Medical Education (PKB) specifically to increase knowledge of anatomy and dissection skills as well as neurosurgery surgery techniques in the skull base and spine.

The Brain and Spine Cadaver Dissection Course event was opened directly by the Dean of Faculty of Medicine Udayana University, Dr. dr. Komang Januartha Putra Pinatih, M.Kes., who in his speech conveyed the importance of improving abilities and competencies, especially in order to compete with outside health workers. This event is also expected to be a vehicle for sharing knowledge from supervisors who are experts to general practitioners and residents.

The speech was followed by a Lecture and Demonstration from Prof. Dr. dr. Tjokorda Gde Bagus Mahadewa, M.Kes, SpBS(K)Spinal, FICS, FINSS regarding the surgical approach in the spine on the first day. The next event was followed by a Hands-on Course with Cadaver. The 2nd day of the event was filled with Lectures and Demonstration from Dr. dr. Nyoman Golden, SpBS(K) regarding the surgical approach in the skull base bone followed by a Hands-on Course with Cadaver. The Hands-on Course consists of instrument handling, using a microscope, drilling, dissecting, and retracting.

Participants in this activity consisted of students from the Neurosurgery Specialist Study Program, Faculty of Medicine Udayana University as well as general practitioners and residents from various regions. A total of 23 participants who took part offline, with details of 17 from general practitioners and 6 resident neurosurgeons.

In order to accommodate the enthusiasm of participants who are outside the island, we also broadcast all events to the Online Attendee via Youtube which was followed by limited access with a total of 40 participants online. Given the high enthusiasm of the participants for this activity, it is hoped that in the future this activity can be carried out regularly with a wider range of participants.
