Udayana Language Center in National Workshop 1 FILBA in 2022

The Language Service Institution Forum (FILBA) is a professional, scientific and collaborative forum in the fields of development, guarantee and provision of education/training services, testing, translation and other language services.

Located at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, the first FILBA National Workshop was held on 8-12 June 2022. The purpose of the event was to disseminate and finalize the draft of the National Standard for Language Training, Translation and Editing of Higher Education Languages. The workshop also aims to develop a language skill grid, namely Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking TKBI FILBA through the Language Testing Division. In addition, the workshop activities also drafted a document for the Quality of Language Training, Language Testing and Translation through the Quality Assurance Division. In this activity, UPT Bahasa Unud contributed as a language testing division.

The opening event was held on June 8, 2020 at the Rayz UMM hotel ballroom. The event was opened by the Chancellor, represented by the Vice Chancellor for academics, Prof. Dr. Saymsul Arifin, M.Sc. Arifin in his opening remarks welcomed the National Workshop 1 activity and hoped that there would be concrete results that could be beneficial for all FILBA members. One of them is the Academic English Test for FILBA members and the general public. The activity on June 9 was followed by a Keynote Speech by Prof. Ali Saukah, Ph.D who is also a TEFLIN advisor. Ali Saukah conveyed about Assessment vs Evaluation, Examination, Standardization, Standardize Test, Quality Assurance and English Language Test Development. Ali Saukah hopes that through FILBA, Indonesia will soon have a test equivalent to TOEFL ITP or IELTS.

The last workshop event took place on Friday, June 10, 2022. The activity proceeded with parallel presentations from each Division. Division of Language Testing, which is divided into TKBI grids for Reading and Writing skills. In addition, the team divided into Listening and Speaking skills also presented the results of the discussion. The presentation continued with a presentation on standardization of quality test document designs, translation and language training. The presentation activity on the last day was closed by the Head of the UMM Language Center.

Head of UMM Language Center Dr. Masduki in his remarks at the closing ceremony expressed his appreciation for the participation and contribution of the participants from all Higher Education Language Institutions in Indonesia who took part in the preparation of the language skills grid and also the design of quality documents.

Joko Priyono as the Chair of FILBA in his closing remarks conveyed the continuation of the development of TKBI which will be carried out at the National Workshop II with UMS Surakarta as the host in November. Language service standards through the Cooperation division are submitted to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology as a service standard that is expected to apply nationally. The workshop was closed with a Cultural Visit which was held on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
