The Indonesian Ministry of Health Provides "Whole Genome Sequencing" Grant Assistance

Present in this activity the Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Dr. dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, DHSM, MARS., Rector of Udayana University Prof. Dr. Ir. I Nyoman Gde Antara, M. Eng, IPU, Director of Medical, Nursing and Support Services at Sanglah Hospital Dr. dr Ketut Ariawati, SpA (K), Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Dr. dr. Komang Januartha Putra Pinatih, M.Kes, Vice Deans, and the Laboratory Management Team.
The Director General of P2P said that the Ministry of Health wanted to hand over the Whole Genome Sequencing tool to Udayana University, especially to the Faculty of Medicine in collaboration with Sanglah Hospital. The tool will be able to function properly, for that it takes a month of preparation before the tool arrives at Unud. All preparations related to the supporting infrastructure of the room and other equipment must be ready, including the human resources who will manage the equipment. Of course, later there will be a training process that will be carried out online or on the side, so that in early May 2021, when the tool arrives, it can be operated properly. With the commitment of the Rector, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the Director of Sanglah Hospital, it is hoped that this tool can be used to strengthen surveillance, develop biotech, and strengthen research capacity at Udayana University.
Meanwhile, the Rector of Unud expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia who will donate the Whole Genome Sequencing tool to the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University in collaboration with Sanglah Hospital. The most important thing for Udayana University is to prepare a place, as well as human resources who will operate the tool. Besides that, it is also how the tool can be useful not only for Udayana University and Sanglah Hospital, but how the community can take advantage of the presence of this very sophisticated tool in the health sector, and can function properly to help the community.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine added that the grant tool will be used to support the Center of Excellence at Sanglah Hospital in the field of aesthetics and anti-aging, and later it will also be used to support research both basic research and translational research whose output is expected to improve research publications and research results as well. later used to improve the quality of service in hospitals for patients. This tool will also be very useful for both educational institutions and Sanglah Hospital and the general public.
