Udayana University Holds MBKM Talks with Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC, Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN.Eng

Udayana University (Unud) held an activity entitled MBKM Talk with Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC, Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN.Eng (Plt. Director General of Higher Education, Research and Technology Kemendikbudristek) located at the Postgraduate Building, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, Friday (8/10/2021). On this occasion, the Director General of Diktiristek was accompanied by the Director of Learning and Student Affairs (Belmawa), Prof. Dr. Aris Junaidi, Ph.D. MBKM discussion moderated by Prof. Ir. Ngakan Putu Gede Suardana, MT. PhD., this was attended by the Rector along with University and Faculties Leaders in the Unud environment as well as representatives from other universities in Bali.

The Independent Learning Campus Independent Policy (MBKM) launched by the Minister of Education and Technology is a framework to prepare students to become strong scholars, relevant to the needs of the times and ready to become leaders with a high national spirit.

Rector of Unud Prof. Dr. Ir. I Nyoman Gde Antara, M.Eng.,IPU is very grateful that the Director General of Diktiristek and Director of Belmawa are willing to attend to convey issues related to MBKM to improve the understanding of the academic community. The Rector revealed that Unud strongly supports MBKM, which according to him is a revolutionary program, and Unud has participated in all fields of activity. Until now, Unud has MBKM participants as many as 1,168 students, including students who participated in domestic credit transfers 69 people and the Indonesia International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program 14 people such as in America, Japan, Germany, and other European countries.

He further stated that according to the target, 30 percent of students will join the MBKM program. The problem at Unud is that the thematic KKN program and other programs that are not managed by Belmawa have not been recognized. The Dean with the Head of Study Program manages internships in the industry with their associations or outside partners. This is a very large number. How can this be recognized in order to get recognition from the Ministry, so that it can be counted as an MBKM program.

Meanwhile, Prof. Nizam in his presentation said, the industrial world is moving very fast, and now it has entered the era of the industrial revolution 4.0. The education curriculum always lags behind the dynamics of the world of work. As a result, university graduates have to learn a lot more when they enter the world of work because their competencies are not relevant to the needs of the industrial world. To be relevant, the world of education and the world of work must go hand in hand. The trick is to equalize the experience of the world of work with courses, with this MBKM. MBKM policy in accordance with Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 3 of 2020, gives students the right to study 3 semesters outside their study program. Through this program, there are wide opportunities for students to enrich and improve their insights and competencies in the real world in accordance with their passions and ideals, which universities are obliged to facilitate.

Regarding the question of how to recognize the program of activities carried out by Unud to become an MBKM program, Prof. Aris Junaidi. He explained that currently his party is preparing changes to the ministerial regulations related to this so that it does not burden universities.

Prof. Nizam added that MBKM is a breakthrough from the Minister of Education and Technology to capture the opportunity for Indonesia's demographic bonus. We must produce human resources capable of creating jobs. Don't generate unemployment. Higher education institutions must produce superior human resources who are creative, innovative, competent, competitive, and have noble character for the progress of Indonesia in the future.
