FKH Unud Hosts International Symposium in Veterinary Science
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Udayana University was appointed to host the "The 4th International Symposium in Veterinary Science", Thursday (02/13/2020). This activity is routinely held in collaboration with the Association of Indonesian Veterinary Medicine (AFKHI) with universities from Japan. Indonesian Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Association consists of colleges that have Faculty of Veterinary Medicine all over Indonesia, which currently totals 11 universities. Meanwhile, Japanese universities collaborated with are Yamaguchi University, Kagoshima University, Tottori University, Gifu University, and Miyazaki University.
This activity was opened by Vice President of Foreign Affairs, Yamaguchi University, Prof. Fusanori Miura. Also present as the keynote speakers Prof. Nyoman Mantik Astawan, professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University. In front of the participants, he explained the development of rabies in Bali.
Not only discussing about the collaboration, this activity also discussed current issues related to animal health in both countries. Chairman of the Indonesian Veterinary Faculty Association Prof. Srihadi Agungpriyono said there were three animal health issues that became the outline of the discussion, including adequate food, healthy food ingredients for animals, and zoonosis diseases. "Animals and humans are so close thereby several diseases that can be transmitted to humans, this discussion also discusses how our role in minimizing the possibility of that happening," he explained. According to the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Udayana University I Nengah Kerta Besung, zoonosis disease became an important discussion. Considering there are several diseases in animals that can be infected to humans, it is important to take it in-depth discussion related to this problem.
Indonesian Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Association has collaborated with universities from Japan through student and lecturer exchanges, research collaboration, to mentoring in Tri Dharma of higher education. "Certainly more intense collaboration, which we have tried so far, is sending students and lecturers to Japan to study there, and there are some who collaborate with us. In the future it will be discussed how to provide comprehensive assistance in the field of education and research," added Prof. Srihadi. (Udayana Media)
