Udayana University International Relations’ Students Triumphed at Brawijaya University
Representatives of Udayana when awarded as second prize in the “Goresan Pena Sosial” competition at Brawijaya, Malang
Not long ago, a proud achievement inscribed by three third semester students of International Relations (IR) Department Udayana University, namely Ahmad Ainul Muklis, I Gede Wahyu Widnyana, and Kadek Dedi Widyastawan. The annual event of National Scientific Writing Competition “Goresan Pena Sosial” (GPS) which is organized by the Student Association of Sociology of University of Brawijaya (UB) successfully conquered by them through winning the second championship title and beat several other major universities in Indonesia.
GPS Contest 2016 took the theme of "The Role of Youth in Community Development at Momentum ASEAN Economic Community". The competition was participated by hundreds of teams from various universities in Indonesia with a selection process that is more than two months, starting from the selection of abstracts to be taken 10 best teams to make a presentation at the final stage in the UB campus. The final stage of the GPS itself took place on 24-25 September 2016 and was held at the A Prof. Darsono Building Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), University of Brawijaya.
Before the final day, on 16 September 2016 a technical meeting was held online for technical clarity for all participants during the event. The competition’s final stage was held on Saturday (24/9); it began with the draw order of presentation and continued with the opening ceremony and a speech from FISIP dean of UB. Meanwhile, participants of Udayana get the serial number of the fourth after participants from UGM, UNS Solo, and UB. After the presentation session ended, the series resumed the next day to do a field trip in around Batu, Malang, East Java. The first destination was the processing of apples belonging to Makmur Abadi Farmers Group (KTMA) and continued with KTMA picking apples activity.
The accomplishments achieved by the participants from Udayana University was as runner up in the GPS competition 2016, with the title of the scientific paper (Trend-Main-Dose): Optimizing Indonesian Youth Entity In Momentum AEC (Asean Economic Community) through stimulation of Hashtags Twitter Usage As Deterrence Effect Against Other Countries, prefixed with Gadjah Mada University as the first winner, followed by representatives of the UB in third place.
Participants Udayana University said that the biggest motivation for them to participate in the national event are they hoping that if in this competition they are able to carve achievements, their means have been able to present one more achievements as part of series of achievements of International Relation Department have had to support the accreditation process of the department in order to achieve better accreditation. By winning this competition, Udayana University participants was awarded a certificate and a trophy, which serve as evidence of their achievement for IR Udayana.
According to Ahmad Ainul Muklis, as the head of the Udayana team advises on academic community, especially IR students to try and be more active in participating in various competitions of scientific writing. He and his friends argued with scientific writing, allowing the author to get a lot more benefits such as critical thinking, creative, scientific insight and certainly can be the name of Udayana in regional, national and even international. Their hope in the future is in the form of an increase in the support provided by the Faculty or University-related scientific writing competition, in view of the rapid scientific journals competition among Universities in Indonesia.
