Collaboration Between Students of Master of Food Technology Faculty of Agricultural Technology Udayana University with Bala Biotech Indonesia Foundation, Changes Maggot Into Chips

Students from Master Program in Food Technology Faculty of Agricultural Technology Udayana University on behalf of I Gusti Ayu Krisma Widya Saraswati and I Gede Arie Mahendra Putra collaborated with Bala Biotech Indonesia foundation conducted research on the manufacture of Maggot-based Chips high protein.

Maggots are larvae of the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) or Hermetia Illucens in Latin. Maggots are rich in protein. Usually maggots are used as basic ingredients for making feed such as fish feed, fertilizer and others. Bala Biotech Indonesia foundation is a company oriented towards environmentally friendly technology sewage treatment services by applying the 3R principle of: Reduce, Recycle, Reuse. So that waste has economic value and can be reused.

I Kadek Alamsta Suarjuniarta as CEO said that this collaboration is one form of positive collaboration that is expected to educate the public regarding the use of maggots as protein-rich chips. Maggots used are maggots cultivated and livestock themselves. This research collaboration is financed by ASMI (Accelerated Start Up of Indonesian Students).

The research was conducted to convert maggots into maggot flour and use maggot flour substitution as the basic ingredient to make maggot chips. This research was guided by Lecturer of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Dr. Ir. Luh Putu Wrasiati, M.P. This research will continue and be developed in order to ensure the safety of the products produced. And it is expected that later many communities will begin to open and educated with the high protein content in maggots.
