Through OSCE, FMIPA UNUD Pharmacist Professional Study Program Tests prospective young pharmacists

On Saturday, February 3 2024, the Pharmacist Study Program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Udayana University (UNUD) held an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). This event, scheduled to last for three days untiul February 5th, 2024, will be located in the FMIPA Postgraduate Building, becoming a crucial assessment event for the 89 participating pharmacist candidates.

Organized by a committee consisting of 37 people, this OSCE activity aims to assess prospective pharmacists' abilities in making decisions, communicating with patients, and carrying out pharmaceutical practice procedures. It is hoped that this activity can be a gateway for them to obtain a pharmacist certificate, which will later enable them to practice their skills privately.

This activity uses 10 special rooms/exam station rooms where each station represents a different pharmacist competency. Participants will be tested on their abilities by examiners consisting of 11 Udayana University lecturers as internal examiners, 20 pharmacist practitioners/field preceptors, and 1 external examiner through a series of case simulations where they must provide solutions to the questions asked. This stationary approach is intended to mimic real scenarios that pharmacists will encounter in practice, testing not only their theoretical knowledge but also practical skills, from patient consultation to medication management, in a setting that approximates real situations, and decision-making abilities.

This OSCE is designed to reflect the high standards required in the pharmacy profession, ensuring that all pharmacist candidates who successfully graduate have not only a broad and in-depth knowledge of pharmacy, but also the interpersonal skills and professional ethics necessary to interact with patients and other healthcare professionals. Through this comprehensive assessment activity, the Pharmacist Study Program at FMIPA UNUD is committed to producing graduates who are ready to face challenges in the pharmaceutical field and make positive contributions to society.

Through holding this OSCE, the Pharmacist Study Program at FMIPA UNUD hopes to not only produce pharmacists who are competent and ready to face professional challenges, but also to emphasize their commitment to improving the quality of education in the pharmaceutical field. This activity is an important step in ensuring that their graduates are able to make a significant contribution to society, by bringing the standards of pharmacist practice to a higher level.
