Increasing Knowledge of the Role of HbA1c in Diabetes Diagnosis, FK Unud Invites Resource Persons from South Africa

 

In order to increase knowledge regarding the role of HbA1c, the Clinical Pathology Specialist Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University held a guest lecture which took place in the Prof. Meeting Room. Dr. I Goesti Ngoerah Gde Ngoerah, FK Unud Denpasar Building. (12/15/2023)

 

Inviting Prof. Rajiv Erasmus from Clinical Pathology National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS), Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, South Africa as speaker, in this event there were 2 topics presented, namely "Pitfalls in three uses of HbA1c for the diagnosis of diabetes in non Caucasian populations" and "Global MedLab Week 2024: Labs Save Lives".

 

Participated by students (residents) and lecturer staff, the aim of holding this event is to increase knowledge about the role of HbA1c for diagnosis in non-Caucasian populations and more students will understand the role of HbA1c for diagnosing diabetes.

 

The guest lecture event began with remarks by the Dean of FK Unud, Prof. Dr. Dr. Komang Januartha Putra Pinatih, M.Kes., who also opened the event, in his speech Prof. Januartha said that the knowledge that would be shared by the speakers would certainly be very useful for the students and lecturers who took part in this guest lecture because diabetes is a disease that is quite dangerous and occurs frequently in Indonesia, so with the arrival of Prof. Rajiv, who will provide the latest knowledge and practice regarding diabetes diagnosis, is expected to increase participants' knowledge in understanding the role of HbA1c for diabetes diagnosis.

 

"Diabetes is a dangerous disease and is quite common in Indonesia. The arrival of Prof. Rajiv, who is a direct practitioner, will certainly provide benefits for all of us to better understand the role of HbA1c in diagnosing diabetes. I hope the participants can get the latest information regarding the role of HbA1c "for diabetes diagnosis which will later be useful in practice in the field," he said.

 

As opened, the event continued with the presentation of material by Prof. Rajiv and the discussion session was interactive. Apart from students and lecturer staff, this event was also attended by the Coordinator of the Clinical Pathology Specialist Study Program, FK Unud, namely Dr. Dr. Sianny Herawati, Sp.PK (K) along with the Chair of PDS Patklin and IACC Bali branch, namely Prof. Dr. Dr. A. A. Wiradewi Lestari, Sp.PK (K).
