Exchanging Information, PDIL UGM Graduate School Visits S3 Environmental Science Postgraduate Udayana University

Located at the Udayana University Postgraduate Building, in order to increase knowledge, understanding, and implementation of environmental science education activities, the PDIL Postgraduate School of Gadjah Mada University visited the Udayana University Postgraduate Environmental Science Doctoral Study Program on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. This activity was led by Prof. Dr. Eko Haryono, M.Si., who is the coordinator of the Environmental Science Doctoral Study Program at the Gadjah Mada University Postgraduate School, accompanied by lecturers, students, and education staff.

 

The purpose of this visit was to study matters relating to the implementation of environmental science education in the Udayana University Postgraduate Environmental Study Program. The group was received directly by Plt. Udayana University Postgraduate Director Prof. Dr. I Wayan Budiasa, SP., MP, accompanied by the Coordinator of the Udayana University Postgraduate Environmental Science Doctoral Study Program Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Arthana, MS., Coordinator of the Research and Community Service Unit Ni Made Utami Dwipayanti, ST., M.BEnv., PhD, and PDIL lecturer Dr. Drs. I Made Sara Wijana, MSi. In his remarks, the Acting Director of Postgraduate Unud expressed his gratitude for visiting Postgraduate Unud, especially S3 Environmental Science. The existence of this visit will be able to add new ideas and knowledge to the management of the environmental science doctoral program, added Prof. Budiasa.

 

Meanwhile, Prof. Arthana in his speech conveyed how the management of environmental science study programs, both masters and doctoral, is said to be quite difficult, especially to pursue graduates on time. Related to this, Prof. Arthana also requested information on how PDIL Postgraduate School UGM overcame this. Prof. Arthana also said that PDIL Pasca Unud also has a Double Degree Program (DDP) with the Department of Environmental Remote Sensing, Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Chiba University, Japan, which dispatched one student on April 1, 2023.

Prof. Eko said in his presentation that the purpose of this visit was not only to increase knowledge in the management of environmental science, but it was also expected to strengthen the relationship between Udayana University Postgraduate School and Gadjah Mada University Postgraduate School, and of course also between environmental sciences in both institutions.

 

Where it was also mentioned that Pasca Unud had also visited the UGM Postgraduate School in 2019. In addition, the existence of a forum for environmental science study programs throughout Indonesia that are members of PEPSILI is said to also make the process of exchanging information about environmental study programs easier. Related to accreditation, Prof. Eko said, one of the program plans from PEPSILI is to form an Independent Accreditation Agency (LAM) specifically for Environmental Science.

 

In realizing the achievement of graduates on time, Prof. Eko also conveyed how PDIL Graduate School UGM made a curriculum that would facilitate this, one of which was the Kapita Selekta course. This course is taught by each Promoter and Copromoter of the doctoral course taken by students in the first semester, he added.
