With Local Waste Capital, Civil Engineering Faculty of Engineering, University of Udayana Successfully Brings Home 6 National Achievements

Lately, material innovation is one of the trending topics in the world of construction. Innovative materials are not only in demand because of their environmentally friendly nature, but also at a lower price than conventional materials which are widely available in the field. The method for working on this material is not complicated, it tends to require a shorter time when it is mass produced. Innovative materials developed by Civil Engineering students at the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University under the guidance of Mrs. Putu Cinthya Pratiwi Kardita, S.T., M.T. made from local waste that is easy to find in the Province of Bali.

"We see the availability of raw materials in large quantities and tends to damage the environment if not utilized optimally. Some of the raw materials used can be obtained easily and the processing process is quite short,” explained Mrs. Tiwi. He also added that in addition to local waste found in nature, there is also bamboo sawdust obtained from a bamboo building contractor in Bali Province, and even Udayana University has a Memerandum of Understanding (MoU) with the contractor.

The idea of making an innovative material that can be used as a substitute for conventional materials was sparked by Civil Engineering students at the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University who are members of several groups and have won several awards at the national level during May 2023. The materials made range from block walls to briquettes. , lightweight concrete, ceiling, and mortar. The waste used includes tabas stone waste (coarse and fine aggregate), chopped plastic, used cooking oil, blood clam waste, and bamboo sawdust waste.

The following are some of the achievements that have been obtained at the national level along with the names of the team members:

  1. 1st Winner and Best Presentation of the National Scientific Writing Competition Chemistry Fair Born for Nationalism 5.0 at Jambi University on behalf of I Gede Adi Guna Apriana, Anak Agung Ngurah Agus Prasetya, and Ni Ketut Aprilia Kartiana Dewi.
