Joint Research: 16 Udayana Veterinary Medicine Students Ready to Collaborate with PT. Rhea Natural Science
Sixteen students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) of Udayana University (Unud) have consistently conducted joint research with PT. Rhea Natural Science and PT. Armada Jaya Farm from February 2022.
The joint research coordinated directly by Drh. I Made Merdana, MP aims to conduct field tests on essential oil products in broiler chickens to obtain the optimum dosage and determine the best performance of all the chickens given the treatment.
Each student already has a research topic that will be worked on and submitted as a thesis title later. Topics raised included hematology, microbiology, carcass and histopathology profiles. Then, on Sunday (26/02) the first sample was taken after two weeks of maintenance and administration of essential oil treatments.
After four weeks of joint research, the day came for the final sampling as well as a visit from Mr. Rajeev Kumar Jha who is the Research Project Coordinator of PT. Rhea Natural Science. The last sampling activity as well as harvesting was held for two days from 12 March to 13 March 2023.
"In collaboration with Dok Merdana, Prof. Ardana, Dok Ocha, and students like you have fun and I am satisfied with the research that has been done because you are easy to discuss with," said Mr. Rajeev Kumar Jha during a visit to the stables.
Furthermore, on Monday (13/03), which was the last day of the joint research, several students weighed the chickens ready for harvest one by one. Without stopping there, the activity continued with testing the quality of the carcass and examining macropathology and organoleptic tests. With the various examinations that have been carried out it appears that
the chickens treated with essential oil from PT. Rhea Natural Science has better quality and performance than the untreated one.
“Of course participating in this joint research is very enjoyable for me because I personally get a lot of new knowledge in the world of poultry farming. What's more, we are directly involved in this research process and all costs are covered," said Junita Marzelona as one of the students who participated in the joint research.
This joint research can be said to be very helpful for Unud FVM students because PT. It is Rhea Natural Science that facilitates all costs for laboratory tests to student publications. Not only that, even PT. Armada Jaya Farm also facilitated the lending of cages as a place for research and giving
1,500 broiler chickens.
