Declaring Graduation Without Thesis Defense, FVM Unud Held Workshop on Revision of Research Proposal and Thesis Guidelines
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) of Udayana University carried out an offline revision of the Research Proposal and Thesis Seminar Guidelines on August 30, 2022, located in the Meeting Room on the 1st floor of the FVM Unud. This activity was attended by the Dean, DepVice Deans, Study Program Coordinators, Lecturers and student representatives in the FVM Unud . The activity was carried out in 2 sessions where the first session was in the form of an explanation of the draft guidelines that would be implemented and while receiving input from the invitees who were present. Followed by the second session, namely the finalization of the draft guidelines by the drafting team consisting of the heads of the Unud FVM laboratories.
Revision of guidelines for research proposals and thesis seminars at FVM Unud is a routine agenda at FVM Unud in order to adjust to existing market needs. This year's revision of the guidelines emphasizes the distribution of thesis supervisors within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Unud. This is expected by the spread of the mentors. Supervisors can focus more on guiding. In addition, it is also expected that Academic Supervisors can become Thesis Supervisors. So that it can early direct where the research interests of the students who are being mentored can be directed.
The Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. dr. I Nyoman Suartha, M.Si. said that the Revised “This guideline is something that must be implemented. Considering the new National Higher Education Standards emphasize more on Input, Process and Output,” he said when opening the activity. The interesting thing for students is that, in the latest revision of the thesis guidelines, FVM Unud students who are able to publish their research in the Sinta 2 Journal or Reputable International Journal such as Scopus are entitled to graduate without a thesis defense. Students can graduate without going through the thesis defense process because research that has been published in reputable journals is considered to have gone through a peer-review process in accordance with academic rules. However, the status that is accepted as a condition for graduating without a thesis defense is Published, not only Accepted.
At the end of the activity, namely the finalization of the draft guidelines for the implementation of the research proposal seminar, it focuses more on the technical implementation of taking research proposals. It is expected that students will be able to determine their interest in researching in what field from an early semester, starting in semester 3. Given that the requirements to be able to take a research proposal seminar are Methodology and Research Design, it is planned that the courses will be moved to semester 4 so that students can design their research early. The chairman of the executive committee, Dr. dr. I Gede Soma, M.Kes expressed his gratitude for all the inputs that have been given so that the draft guidelines can be finalized and will soon be ratified at the next senate meeting.
