IMPROVING AWARENESS OF THE SPREAD OF FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASES BY UDAYANA UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM STUDENTS
Klungkung – Udayana University Community Service Program students conducted Information Communication and Education (ICE) related to Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) targeting the Pikat Village Community, especially to farmers. This activity is the main work program of the Production Improvement Sector led by Made Gede Adi Surya Saputra, a Veterinary Medicine student at Udayana University who is a member of the Unud Community Service Program group in Pikat Village, Dawan District, Klungkung Regency. This was done considering the current condition of the spread of the FMD outbreak in Bali.
This activity be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 starting at 10.00 A.M. The students divided themselves into seven (7) groups spread over seven banjars in Pikat Village, namely Banjar Pangi Kawan, Banjar Pangi Kangin, Banjar Cempaka, Banjar Intaran, Banjar Buug, Banjar Sente, and Banjar Gelogor. ICE is carried out door to door with the hope that all farmers in Pikat Village will receive education about FMD so that they can increase public awareness of FMD. The Pikat Village community also welcomed the implementation of this activity. Around 50 farmers were successfully visited and received education about FMD. The majority of farmers already know about FMD. However, many do not realized the importance of prevention and countermeasures when FMD infects their livestock.
In addition to ICE, Udayana University Community Service Program students also put up banners regarding measures to prevent the spread of FMD in front of the Village Office and strategic points of Pikat Village. This activity is expected to have a real impact and achieve the expected target for preventing the spread of FMD.
