Cooperation for the Placement of Independent Senior Residents to Ensure Continuity of Health Services in West Sumba Regency

The Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud) continues to increase its commitment and efforts to improve the quality and sustainability of health services in the Eastern Indonesia region, as well as an effort to improve the quality of education for students of final stage specialist study programs. One of the collaborations that will be carried out is sending independent senior residents to the Waikabubak Regional General Hospital (RSUD), West Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Cooperation efforts to improve health services are focused on health services for the heart, eyes, ENT, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, and anesthesia.

Regent of West Sumba, Yohanis Dade, SH, Plt. West Sumba Regional Secretary, Head of West Sumba District Health Office, drg. Bonar Bernandus Sinaga, M.Kes, and the Director of the Waikabubak Hospital, dr. Javendi Rizal Pavliando Saragih, Sp.A, M. Biomed, and his staff welcomed the visitation team from the Unud Medical Faculty, 21-22 June 2022, at the West Sumba Regent's Office. In his remarks, Regent Yohanis expressed his gratitude for the willingness of the Unud Medical Faculty team to re-build the cooperation that had previously been carried out. "We as one of the disadvantaged areas really hope for specialist health services, so that our community does not have to be referred to outside the island," he said.

Prof. dr. I Md Ady Wirawan, MPH, Ph.D, representing the FK Unud visitation team also expressed his gratitude for the trust given.

“Senior independent residents are students who already have the competence equivalent to specialists, because they will soon complete their education. They also need a vehicle to increase the variety of cases and hone their independence in providing health services. Hopefully the presence of our students will be able to improve access and continuity of health services on Sumba Island," said Prof. Addy.

The event then continued with a visit to the Waikabubak Hospital to see facilities, visit data, case variations, resident residences, and infrastructure related to health services as well as those related to the safety and security of students.

The next event was the presentation of the profile of Waikabubak Hospital by the director, dr. Javendi was accompanied by the Head of Medical Services and his staff. Discussion of important points in the cooperation agreement ended the series of visitation activities this time.
