HISTORY

Environmental Science Master Study Program (PSMIL) is one of excellent study program in Graduate Program of Udayana University, that is also the first master study program in environmental Science in Bali Province. The implementation of  PSMIL is based on operational license of Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Department of National Education Number 1866/D/T/2001 date 1 June 2001. In the last five years, the operational license of Environmental Science Master Program has been extended by Directorate General of Higher Education No. 183/D/T/2008, and the extension of operational license in 2010 was through Decree of Rector of Udayana University No. 3457/D/T/K-N/2010, dated 18 August 2010. This extension of license is based on Self Evaluation-Based Evaluation Report of Study Program of Environmental Science of Unud. The Environmental Science Master Study Program of Unud has been accredited by BAN-PT since 2007 according to Decree of National Accreditation Agency of Higher Education (BAN-PT) No. 005/BAN-PT/Ak-V/S2/II/2007, dated 24 February 2007. It makes this program become a pioneer and the best Environmental Science Master Program in Bali, even in Eastern Region of Indonesia. The increasing interest year by year shows high enthusiasm and shows that this program becomes alternative for the student-to-be as the place to study in Environmental Study. This study program also has the good graduates viewed from employment aspect and career in work place. The location of Environmental Science Master Study Program of Unud is in Denpasar City, Bali that is a very strategic location, so that this program becomes popular by being a scientific forum in environment field in national and international level. The change of learning paradigm into competency-based learning, with the structure of curriculum as contained in Decree of Minister of National Education No. 045/2002, demands educational institutions including the Environmental Science Master Study Program to make change toward the curriculum. The master study program of Environmental Science has arranged the Competency-Based Curriculum since 2005 by implementation that is increased gradually. In doing its activities, it always refers to vision, mission, purpose, objective, and the strategy determined and considers this as general guidance so that later it leads to the right direction.

Excellent Program

In the effort of achieving vision and mission, PSMIL PPs Unud develop excellent programs, which are intended to improve the quality of the graduates whose international academic and local wisdom oriented. Whereas the excellent programs are Shared lecture program, international collaboration research group, and Double Degree Program.

Double Degree Program was hold by Environmental Science Master Study Program of Graduate Program of Udayana University (PSMIL PPs Unud), with concentration on Environmental Remote Sensing. PSMIL PPs Unud is one of multidisciplinary Master Study Program, so that the management is under Graduate Program OF Udayana University. The Graduate Program of Unud was established in 1992. On 6 October 1992, Udayana University was trusted by Department of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, through Directorate General of Higher Education to hold Strata Two (S2) educational level, started by the establishment of  Linguistics Master Study Program.  Until now, the Graduate Program of Unud has 24 Master (S2) Study Programs, and 7 Doctoral (S3) Programs like presented in Table 1. PSMIL PPs Unud in cooperation with Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Yamaguchi University holdsdouble degree program. Besides, Udayana University and Yamaguchi University are in cooperation in the program of Shared lecture which is held by using teleconference media, as well as establishing group research. One of the joint research activities is re-vegetation project which is planned to be conducted in 2016. The research is conducted in Gunung Batur, Kintamani Sub-District, Bangli District.
