Udayana University Collaborates with PT Siam Flotilla Persada, Develops Technology to Prevent Abrasion

Jimbaran - Udayana University (Unud) has collaborated with PT Siam Flotilla Persada, which was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by both parties in the Bahasa Room of the Jimbaran Campus Rectorate Building, Tuesday (4/2/2025). This collaboration aims to strengthen synergy in education, research and community service in accordance with the values ​​of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.

This Memorandum of Understanding includes strategic cooperation in developing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This signing marks the commitment of both parties to increase synergy between the industrial and academic worlds to improve and develop human resource competencies as well as academic development, use of appropriate science and technology in the field of coastal ecosystem conservation.

One of the main innovations brought forward in this collaboration is the Flotilla Abrasion Defense System (FADS). This system is designed to protect beaches and coastal areas from abrasion by mimicking the function of a natural mangrove ecosystem. PT Siam Flotilla Persada is a leading company in developing sustainable coastal protection solutions through innovative technology. With its superior system, FADS, which offers optimal protection against coastal erosion while supporting the preservation of marine ecosystems. FADS technology adopts an approach in harmony with nature through the use of artificial mangrove roots which are effective in reducing wave energy, preventing erosion and increasing biodiversity.

Rector of Unud Prof. I Ketut Sudarsana in his speech said that the signing of this memorandum of understanding was a concrete step for Udayana University to always open itself because its task as an educational institution is of course to implement the Tridharma of Higher Education. Unud is very open to collaborating with related industries to develop Tridharma both in the fields of research and community service, which in this case is collaboration with PT Siam Flotilla Persada which is related to monitoring and coastal ecosystems. Unud has several human resources in this field and PT Siam has a system which is expected to be used to mitigate abrasion and changes in coastlines due to sea water erosion, climate change and rising sea levels.

"We are grateful to be able to work together through the signing of this memorandum of understanding, hopefully in the future it won't just be one or two pieces of paper signed, but we hope that later it can be implemented with several more detailed PKS in future activities," said the Rector of Unud.

As the leader of Unud, he hopes that not only will the memorandum of understanding be signed but there will also be follow-up, both in the fields of education, research and community service. In the future, it is hoped that this collaboration will be beneficial not only for both parties but also for society in general.

Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Siam Flotilla Persada, Antonius Andy Hartoyo, in his speech said that this collaboration was a momentum for industry and academics in strengthening synergy and collaboration. This collaboration is not just a formal agreement but is a real step in realizing a shared vision for research, education and community service.
