Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University Holds International Seminar on Development of Technology to Support Sustainable Agriculture
Denpasar - The Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University (Unud) held an International Seminar with the theme "Development Technology to Support Sustainable Agriculture" at the Hall of the Postgraduate Building, Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, Thursday (19/9/2024).
This seminar presented the keynote speaker, Consul General of Japan in Denpasar, Mr. MIYAKAWA Katsutoshi and opened by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs representing the Rector of Unud. Apart from that, there were also six speakers from Malaya Universiti, Malaysia, namely Dr. Zulqarnain Mohamed, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Kartini Abu Bakar, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yusmin, from the University of Minnesota, United States of America Ms. Katarini Klett, from PT Isaru Teknologi Nusantara Handhi S. Kentjono and Udayana University I Putu Sudiarta, Ph.D.
Chairman of the Committee, Putu Oki Bimantara, S.P., M.Agr, in his report said that this seminar was attended by around 150 participants consisting of invited guests, lecturers and students from the Faculty of Agriculture, Unud, presenting 1 keynote speaker and 6 speakers. This seminar was held by the Faculty of Agriculture in series with the 57th Anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture and the 62nd Anniversary of Udayana University.
Through this opportunity, the party also expressed its thanks to the Rector of Udayana University, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, PT Isaru Teknologi Nusantara and all parties who participated in this activity. He hopes that all participants who attend can get the maximum benefit from this seminar.
Meanwhile, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs at Unud, Prof. Dr. Ir. I Gede Rai Maya Temaja, MP., IPU. in his speech appreciated the holding of this seminar because the theme raised was very relevant to the challenges faced by the agricultural sector today. Sustainable agriculture is a necessity in facing climate change, land degradation and demands for global food security. With advances in technology, we are able to answer these various challenges, and this is where technology plays a role in supporting environmentally friendly agriculture.
The Vice Rector hopes that this seminar will become a platform for all of us to exchange ideas, experiences and innovations. Technology that is developing rapidly, especially in the digital era, must be utilized to support productivity and efficiency in the agricultural sector.
"Through this seminar, I am sure we will find many new solutions and fresh thinking that can be applied in the field, both in terms of technology, policy and agricultural practices themselves," said the Vice Rector.
The presence of experts from various countries and scientific disciplines will enrich discussions and open new insights regarding strategic issues in sustainable agriculture. It is hoped that this seminar will not only provide significant benefits for the development of the academic world and agricultural practices, but also contribute to the progress of sustainable agriculture, both in Indonesia and globally. With collaboration and knowledge exchange taking place, we can together create innovative and sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by the agricultural sector.
Keynote Speaker Mr. MIYAKAWA Katsutoshi in his presentation introduced the conditions and policies of the Japanese government in the agricultural sector, considering that Japan has limited land that can be used for agriculture and various climate challenges.
In his presentation, Mr. Miyakawa emphasized five main aspects that are the current focus of Japanese government policy, namely food security, the establishment of an environmentally friendly food system, sustainable agricultural development, development of agricultural villages and disaster maintenance or mitigation, and the creation of infrastructure.
