Udayana University Together with Lemhanas RI Holds Focus Group Discussion on Long Term Study of Economic Dijian and SKA Debidjianstrat Lemhannas RI 2024
Udayana University (Unud) in collaboration with Lemhannas RI held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), Long Term Economic Dijian and SKA Debidjianstrat Lemhannas RI 2024, which took place in the Nusa Room, Unud Jimbaran Campus, Thursday (13/6/2024).
This is the second time Lemhannas has carried out an FGD at Udayana University. This FGD raised the theme "Mapping the Potential of the Indonesian Sea as a Carbon Absorber to Achieve the Net Zero Emission (NZE) Target for FY 2024". The FGD event began with an introduction from Lemhannas RI, who on this occasion was Plt. The Governor of Lemhannas was represented by Admiral TNI Ocktave Ferdinal as Director of Economic Studies and SKA Debidjianstrat Lemhannas RI. In his speech, he expressed his thanks to the resource persons from Udayana University who were present and took the time, energy and thoughts to jointly discuss one very important and strategic part of sustainable national development.
In the context of economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, apart from the green economy, President Joko Widodo also emphasized that the blue economy is also a focus that must be considered in improving the economy in Indonesia. Indonesia's ocean area reaches 74.3% or ¾ of the entire archipelago. However, unfortunately the potential for renewable energy from the sea has not been utilized optimally. Coastal and marine ecosystems, also known as blue carbon, are one of the nature-based solutions to fight climate change and achieve a green economy. This long-term study was carried out to provide input on mapping points for Indonesia's marine potential as a carbon sink for achieving the Net Zero Emission target. Closing his remarks, Admiral TNI Ocktave hoped that the presence of the participants and resource persons could produce fresh and constructive thought solutions.
The Rector of Udayana University, represented in this case by the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Information, Prof. I Putu Gede Adiatmika, in his speech, revealed that Udayana University has several faculties and study programs at both undergraduate and master's levels which study various issues related to the theme of this FGD, including the Faculty of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and the Environmental Masters Study Program. Udayana University also has a special unit that deals with new and renewable energy, namely CORE (Center of Excellence in community based Renewable Energy) which is under the LPPM of Udayana University. The Vice Rector is grateful and proud that Udayana University was used as a place to discuss mapping the potential of the sea as a carbon sink for achieving the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target.
It is hoped that through this study and FGD this time we can make a contribution that is in line with the long-term development of Indonesia. With the participation of the Udayana University team, Warmadewa University and Mangrove Nusantara as well as all related experts, they will be able to provide various input and study various marine potentials that exist both in Bali and throughout Indonesia to support the achievement of Net Zero Emissions in 2030 and 2060 and provide conditions that are better in the future.
The first presentation of the material was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Dadan Umar Daihani, D.E.A., Professional Staff in the Natural Resources Sector of Lemhannas RI, then continued by the Study Team's presentation, Dr. Ir. Muhammad Hanafi, M.B.A., IPU., Professional Staff in the Natural Resources Sector of Lemhannas RI.
