Udayana University (Unud), through the Language Center, this year is hosting the 2nd National Workshop on the Language Service Institutions Forum (FILBA) in 2023. FILBA is a forum that houses language institutions or institutes from universities throughout Indonesia. The workshop, which was held for three days from 19 to 21 October 2023, at The Vasini Smart Boutique Hotel, Denpasar Bali, was opened by the Plt. Rector of Unud, Prof. Ir. He expressed his gratitude to FILBA for giving trust to Language Center of Unud to be the host this year. FILBA itself is a Language Services Institutional Forum in Indonesia whose members include various universities, especially language units or centers, in developing and guaranteeing the quality of language services including training, testing and language translation. Language Center of Udayana University itself is entrusted as a member of the National Management.
This workshop was attended by hundreds of participants, both leaders and delegates from various UPTs/Language Centers throughout Indonesia. In this second national workshop, UPT Bahasa Udayana University presented two main speakers, namely Ari Dwipayana as Special Staff Coordinator for the President of the Republic of Indonesia and Dewi Lestari as well as five other speakers in the academic sphere consisting of lecturers and professors with their respective expertise.
It is hoped that the implementation of this workshop will be a momentum for the participants to get to know each other better, especially for the UPTs/Language Centers which has just joined FILBA and of course will become a forum for sharing knowledge, especially the application of IT in language as an effort to deal with cultural disruption. "I really hope that you will gain extensive knowledge in this activity, which can later be applied according to your individual needs, both as academics and professionals in the field of languages," said the Head of the Language Center.
Meanwhile, the Head of National FILBA, Dr. Soni T. Tandiana, S.Pd., in this case said, the development of FILBA from year to year is very significant, the workshop activities are held twice a year and are currently held at Udayana University Bali, and next year will be held at Medan State University and the University of Indonesia. This workshop took the theme "IT Applications in Language Facing Cultural Disruption". At FILBA it is divided into three regions, namely the western region deliberation, the central region administrator and the eastern region administrator. The election for the management of the western region will be held during the National Working Meeting in January which will be held at ITB Bandung, while tomorrow there will be a deliberation for the management of the eastern region and for next June the election for the central region administrators will be held, while the national deliberation election and the election for the inauguration of the management will be held in December early 2022 yesterday.
FILBA itself has also completed national standards for language service institutions which have been approved in national deliberations and in the near future there will be approval by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Apart from that, FILBA is also developing accreditation for language service institutions for the Independent Accreditation Agency for Language Service Institutions, and hopes that next year's FILBA LAM workshop for language service institutions can be opened and implemented. Translator competency certification will also be developed at FILBA. "Hopefully there will be collaboration between translation experts from Unud and other universities, and in the future FILBA will continue to develop with various products that are useful for all of us as language service institutions," said the Head of National FILBA .
Plt. Rector of Udayana University Prof. Ngakan in his speech said that it was a matter of pride for Udayana University to host the 2nd FILBA national workshop. It is hoped that this activity will be able to create mutually beneficial cooperation in the future between the Unud Language service unit and other language units at different institutions in Indonesia in sharing information covering language services at a higher education institution. Hopefully this activity will be a special momentum for language service units, including universities in eastern Indonesia, to meet each other regarding leading innovations in the application of IT in the field of language in facing cultural disruption in this modern era.
The implementation of FILBA's 2nd national workshop is expected to provide output or new knowledge that is useful for participants in implementing learning during the workshop at their respective institutions or language service units. "We give appreciation and support to Language Center of Unud to carry out activities in accordance with its main tasks and functions so that it can carry out its programs sustainably to achieve our goals together towards becoming a World Class University," said Plt. Rector.
