LPPM-IPACOE "Developing Eco – Tourism to Support Sustainable Development in Littoral Space" in Karangasem
The activities of the Institute for Research and Community Service - International Partnership and Community Development (LPPM IPACOE) with the theme "Developing Eco - Tourism to Support Sustainable Development in Littoral Space" were held in Karangasem Regency for two days, Friday-Saturday, 28 - 29 July 2023. The first day of the IPACOE event took place in the Hall of the PKK Karangasem Regency Building. The local partner in IPACOE is the Head of Community and Village Empowerment Service, Karangasem Regency, Drs. I Made Sugiartha, M.Sc., and international partners are Emeritus Prof. Alex R. Curthbert and Quentin Cepheaux. The first day of the IPACOE event was attended by 80 participants, namely heads of coastal villages, tourism village managers, and community empowerment organizations (LPM) in Karangasem Regency.
PMD Head of Karangasem Regency, Drs. I Made Sugiartha, M.Sc., explained the general description of Karangasem Regency, the general condition of Karangasem Regency, the development priorities of Karangasem Regency, and the focus of the Karangasem Regency Community and Village Empowerment Service. Emeritus Prof. Alex explained material about Sustainable Tourism to Improve Environment Quality. Quentin Cepheaux, digital entrepreneur and digital marketer gave an explanation on how to attract tourists with digital media as the main intermediary. Especially in the current era of social media, tourist destination websites have not had much of an impact, on the other hand social media such as Instagram, Tik Tok and Youtube are means that are more widely known and more accessible to tourists to obtain information about tourist areas to be visited.
On the second day, a beach clean-up action was held at Tanah Ampo Beach, Ulakan Village, Karangasem, attended by the Chair and Secretary of Udayana University, Chair of the Udayana University KKN, which involved 200 participants from Ulakan Village residents, fishermen, village officials, and students of the PPM KKN period XXVII Udayana University, which has a home base around the service location. The Head of Ulakan Village, Ketut Sunendra, expressed his appreciation for the beach clean-up action initiated by Udayana University. It is hoped that this beach clean-up activity will become a routine activity because Tanah Ampo Beach is one of the beaches in Ulakan Village that experiences plastic waste problems every time there is heavy rain and flooding.
Head of LPPM Udayana University, Prof. Dr. Drh. Nyoman Suarsana, MSi., who also attended the beach clean-up action, said that the aim of implementing this year's IPACOE is to empower the village tourism life in coastal areas in Karangasem Regency so that they become coastal tourism objects that are in demand by local and foreign tourists while at the same time maintaining healthy coastal environmental conditions. still prone to waste problems. The choice of location on Tanah Ampo Beach was because the beach has a boat crossing pier and is quite close to the Pertamina pier at Padang Bai Port.
