Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University Collaborating with FAO and The Director General of Livestock and Animal Health, Held The One Health Stadium Generale in order to Increase Knowledge About The Role of Veterinarians in Handling Global

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM) of Udayana University in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health of the Republic of Indonesia and the Association of All Indonesian Veterinary Medicine Faculties (AFKHI) held the Stadium Generale “Material for Enriching Zoonotic Disease Control, New Infectious Diseases and Renewable, Poultry Health, Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR) / Anti-Microbial Usage (AMU) with One Health Approach” on March 19, 2022 online using Cisco Webex Meeting. This activity was attended by undergraduate students of veterinary medicine, veterinary professional education and lecturers at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine throughout Indonesia. This Stadium Generale activity presented 4 speakers, namely the Director of Animal Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. drh. Nuryani Zainudin, M.Si, Country Team Leader of the Emergency Center Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Indonesia Dr. Luuk Schooman, Head of the Department of Pharmacology, Gadjah Mada University, Dr. drh. Agustina Dwi Wijayanti, MP., and Head of Udayana One Health Collaboration Center Dr. dr. Ni Nyoman Sri Budayanti, Sp. MK(K).

 

The event was opened with remarks from the Dean of FVM UNUD Prof. Dr. drh. I Nyoman Suartha, M.Si. In his speech Prof. Suartha said “The generale stadium is very important because of the dangers of AMR and AMU in the community and this case is a trend in society. So it is necessary to upgrade for lecturers and to be disseminated to the public, especially our students”. As well as thanking FAO and the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health for their cooperation so that this activity can be carried out. After the remarks by the Dean of FKH, the event continued with remarks by the FAO Country Leader ETAC Indonesia, Dr. Luuk Schooman. Dr. Luuk said “FVM is a higher education institution that produces new veterinarians. These new veterinarians are the next generation who will work on animal health not only in Indonesia but also in the world. The success of the One Health program requires quality human resources”. In addition, it was conveyed that FAO ECTAD and the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health collaborated with AFKHI in order to increase knowledge and awareness on global issues such as Emerging infectious diseases, Zoonoses, Anti-microbial resistance (AMR), AMU, and One Health by incorporating them into the existing curriculum. Then the event was opened by the Director of Animal Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. drh. Nuryani Zainudin, M.Si. in her opening Dr. Nuryani said “This activity is a series of AFKHI activities throughout Indonesia. There are currently 6 urgent global health issues. Today's society still has difficulty accessing health, not only human health but also animal health, so the role of animal health plays an important role in supporting global health.” It was also emphasized that animal health can contribute to preventing, detecting and responding to the threat of the next pandemic and how animal health plays a role in health insurance and food safety. So that increasing the capacity and competence of veterinarians is very important. To ensure that the animal health sector can fulfill its role for human health and global health.

 

Then enter the presentation of the first presenter by Dr. drh. Nuryani Zainudin, M.Si with the topic "Role of Veterinarians: Siskeswanas, Achievement of SDG's and Implementation of One Health" moderated by drh. I Wayan Masa Tenaya, M. Phil, Ph.D. Dr. Nuryani said that global health issues are the main focus of One Health. The Directorate of Livestock and Animal Health has created an integrated national reporting system named:siskeswannas so that animal diseases can be reported and followed up together. So that in the future the Animal Health Sector can achieve the sustainable global development goals on the issue of animal food availability. It was also conveyed that multi-disciplinary cooperation is needed so that One Health can be realized. The second topic is filled by Dr. Luuk Schooman with the material entitled "The Role of FAO in Transboundary Animal Disease, EID, Zoonoses, AMR, with a One Health approach to achieve SDGS”. Dr. Luuk said that One Health is an integration of cooperation in maintaining the balance of human, animal and environmental health”. FAO has a One Health Global Plan for Action (OH-GPA) program. Which consists of 1. Strengthening the One Health system, 2. EID epidemic and zoonotic pandemics, 3. Neglected zoonotic diseases. 4. Food safety hazards, 5. Antimicrobial resistance, 6. Environment and Health. Furthermore, it was conveyed regarding Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID), the incidence of EID increased significantly over time and more than 60% of the incidence of new diseases came from animals, and as much as 70% of these events came from wild animals such as bats, rodents, and non-humans. -Human Primates. More Dr. Luuk conveyed the challenges faced in the implementation of One Health. At the end of his presentation, Dr. Luuk provides views on recommendations that can be implemented in the success of this program.


 

Stadium Generale resumed in session 2 after the lunch break. In session 2 the presentation of the material was moderated by drh. Kadek Karang Agustina, MP. Submission of material on “AMR/AMU and its relation to Poultry Health” was delivered by Dr. drh, Agustina Dwi Wijayanti MP. Dr. Wijayanti said that AMR occurred along with the discovery of new antimicrobials. The incidence of AMR occurs faster than the discovery of antibiotics. So, it is a serious problem today, and AMR is more common at the population level. At the end of the presentation of Dr. Agustina conveyed that control efforts can be carried out by giving antimicrobials in the feed on a population basis, not individually. Submission of the last material by Dr. dr. Ni Nyoman Sri Budayanti, Sp. MK(K). with the title "One Health, Zoonoses, Emerging and Re-Emerging Diseases". Dr. Sri as the Chairperson of the Udayana One Health Collaborating Center conveyed about Zoonoses, Emering and Re-emerging diseases that are still often found today and the importance of the One Health concept in order to overcome them. More Dr. Sri emphasized the need for inter-sectoral cooperation in solving current global issues. It is hoped that this multi-sectoral cooperation will develop well in the future.
