Inspirational Story of SKS Team: First Winner of Business Case Competition in Business Management Network 2023 Event

Denpasar, Press Bureau of BEM FEB Unud: Students of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Udayana University Class of 2020, namely the SKS Team consisting of I Gusti Ayu Amanda Gita Dewi Darmapatni, I Made Kelvin Indra Setiawan, and Putu Ayu Indira Mahita Putri from the SKS Team team, won first place in the Business Case Competition Business Management Network 2023 on March 8–9, 2023, which was held at Favehotel Manahan Solo and UNIBA. In this event, SKS Team competed with 73 teams in the preliminary stage, then successfully passed the selection to become one of the 30 teams that advanced to the semifinal round. Finally, they made it to the final round of the Business Case Competition (BCC) along with three other teams.

Success in this event is not only a source of happiness for the SKS Team but also gives them a lot of output in the form of new insights and knowledge from the competent jury in their field. The insights from the judges became valuable guidelines for participating in future competitions.

There were mixed feelings of excitement and disbelief. They even had to cross-check the official website of the competition and the flyers of the teams that qualified for the final round on Instagram to confirm their victory. This was because at the time of proposal submission, their team name (SKS, Siap Kebutukan Semalam) and the names of the teams that qualified for the finals were already at the beginning. They initially doubted their chances of making it past the semifinals, but it turned out that they made it all the way to the finals in Solo.

It was a long and challenging process. They formed a team quickly when they were informed about the competition. However, the execution of their proposals started quite late, as they were busy with their own activities and the MBKM process. They finally started working on case H-1 before the submission deadline.

One of the most significant obstacles was deciding on the product they would use to solve the problem in the given case. They had to choose a skincare brand, and this was a decision that took a long time due to various considerations. Finally, they chose Kleveru, which had launched earlier than Somethinc, despite Somethinc being the fastest grower in terms of innovation. They finally decided carefully based on an assessment of a number of factors and considerations that included product launch history and innovation impact.

Kelvin also provided valuable insights for fellow FEB students who want to take part in similar competitions. He explained that business competitions can actually be understood well if students understand the basics of management that they learn during lectures. The ability to solve business problems, innovation, and provide solutions is the key to success in this kind of competition. He also conveyed a message to his peers to not only reflect on the knowledge they gained during lectures, but also apply it through competitions such as BMNC. The hope is that more FEB students will participate in the competition and achieve achievements, proving the excellence of FEB Unud in the field of business. SKS Team provides inspiration for FEB Unud students and provides an example that hard work, dedication, and innovative thinking can lead them to achieve national achievements. Their achievements are also proof that the knowledge learned during lectures can be applied in real situations.(lvn)
