Increasing the Selling Value of Mangosteen, Unud Holds Training on Making Face and Body Scrub in Belimbing Village

Tabanan, 17 September 2023 - Lecturers from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University (Unud), assisted by several students, held community service activities by holding training in making Face and Body Scrubs for PKK mothers in Belimbing Village, Pupuan District, Tabanan Regency , Bali.

This activity was carried out as an effort to enrich the skills of the Belimbing Village Community in processing rejected mangosteen fruit into Face and Body Scrub. Apart from that, the activities included in the Udayana Serve Program were also held in the context of the 61st Anniversary of Udayana University. This training also involved several students, including those undertaking real work courses (KKN) in Belimbing Village.

Mrs. Ni Putu Ariantari as Chair of the Implementation Team, said that this training activity was preceded by coordinating with village officials and the Women for Empowerment and Family Welfare (PKK) of Belimbing Village on Sunday, August 27, 2023.

The training activity was opened by the Belimbing Village Head, Mr. I Nyoman Surianto. He hopes that this training activity can improve the quality of human resources in Belimbing Village. Mangosteen fruit is one of the main commodities of Belimbing Village. Awareness of cosmetic products made from natural products is expected to increase the selling value of mangosteen fruit produced in Belimbing Village. "Regarding the arrangement of the Belimbing Village area towards a tourist village, I am very grateful that Belimbing Village has been chosen for this activity," he added.

Mrs. Dr. Luh Putu Wrasiati as one of the event speakers explained that Face and Body Scrub is a cosmetic product aimed at cleaning dead skin cells on the face and body. Cosmetics made from natural ingredients tend to have fewer side effects. "The skin of the mangosteen fruit is purple because it contains a lot of anthocyanins which can maintain healthy skin, so it is suitable to be added to Face and Body Scrub," he explained. The process of making Face and Body Scrub begins by heating all the ingredients dissolved in oil and dissolving the ingredients dissolved in water separately in a different container. Once dissolved, all the ingredients, including the mangosteen rind, are stirred using a mixer until evenly mixed. The finished product is then packaged in containers made of plastic and cans.

The PKK mothers who participated in the training carried out direct practice in the process of mixing ingredients with a mixer and packaging them in containers. At the end of the activity, each PKK mother was given the formula and procedure for making Face and Body Scrub so that they could practice making the product directly without being accompanied. They are also given information regarding the location of purchasing materials so that they can purchase the materials independently for the future manufacturing process.
