Student Exchange Students of the Undergraduate Nursing Study Program and Nurse Professional Education at Kobe Women's University, Japan

Students of the Nursing Study Program and Nurse Professional Education (PSSKPN), Faculty of Medicine participated in the "Sakura Exchange Program in Science" at Kobe Women's University, Japan which took place on July 24 - August 2 2023.

 

This activity was attended by three students and accompanied by a lecturer in the Nursing Undergraduate Program in Nursing and Professional Nurse Education (PSSKPPN), namely Ni Putu Asri Swandewi (PSSKPPN Student Batch 2020), Ni Luh Putu Arista Supadmi (PSSKPPN Student Batch 2021), Pande Komang Sudiantika (PSSKPPN Student Batch 2021), and Ns. Putu Ayu Emmy Savitri Karin, MNS (assistant lecturer).

 

This student exchange activity is a collaboration between Kobe Women's University, Japan and Udayana University, Bali. As for some of the activities carried out during the student exchange, namely orientation, discussions about the super aging society phenomenon in Japan, lectures, training, and visits to Nursing Care Health Facilities such as elderly care facilities to be able to find out the real situation of how the elderly are treated in Japan, Dementia Café , and daily activities that can be given to the elderly.

 

Apart from visiting Kobe Women's University, students also visited several universities in Japan, namely Kyoto Kacho University, Hyogo Medical University, and Kobe Gakuin University. Students are introduced to various existing learning and health facilities and have the opportunity to see live demonstrations and participate in the practice of using assistive devices for the elderly and disabled. Students also make visits to the "Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution" to be able to learn history and how the natural disaster management system in Japan is. This activity also includes visits to several temples such as Kiyomizu Temple (World Heritage Site), Chion-in Temple, and Koryuji Temple to get to know Japanese culture more closely.

 

In this activity, students have the opportunity to learn about the nursing education system in Japan, such as the required qualifications and the educational process. Students also have the opportunity to learn Japanese culture and also introduce Indonesian culture, especially Bali, such as presenting the Janger Dance and Bumbung Dance which are witnessed by the elderly and several health workers at an elderly care facility to entertain the elderly living in the health facility.

 

This activity is expected to broaden students' horizons by gaining experience through direct observation of elderly care from different perspectives and the use of appropriate technology so that students can develop innovative ideas for optimizing elderly care, especially in Bali.
