DOCTORAL PROMOTION SESSION I PUTU AGUS SANTANA, S.T., M.M. DOCTORAL PROGRAMME IN ECONOMICS, FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS, UDAYANA UNIVERSITY

The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened the financial situation and caused social distancing and welfare problems in many countries, including Indonesia. West Nusa Tenggara Province has experienced an increase in poverty and is one of the areas most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as seen from the high rate of poverty. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is more pronounced in urban areas than in rural areas due to problems in the performance of family businesses that are threatened with bankruptcy due to lockdown policies. The problem of financial inclusion in NTB Province, which actually decreased amidst the increase in financial literacy, is a series of welfare problems that are very concerning.

On this happy occasion, Monday, August 7, 2023, Promovendus I Putu Agus Santana, S.T., M.M. delivered a dissertation with the topic: Determinants of Business Performance Based on Menyama Beraya Culture in Improving the Welfare of Balinese Village Families during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Mataram City.

The purpose of this research is to examine the implementation of social capital through the Menyama Beraya Culture, whose existence is seen as broader than the understanding of social capital in general. The Menyama Beraya culture contains elements of religiosity that teach yadnya (the teaching of sincerity and selflessness) so that it triggers tolerance, the spirit of mutual cooperation, loyalty, strong inner bonds, and maintaining good relations between fellow entrepreneurs in the Pasemetonan group, which is expected to improve business performance and family welfare.

The results explain that family resources are able to improve financial inclusion and business performance while not yet being able to improve family welfare without going through business performance. Furthermore, financial literacy has not been able to improve financial inclusion, business performance, or family welfare in both direct and indirect relationships. Furthermore, Menyama Beraya culture is able to increase financial inclusion, and both are also able to improve business performance and family welfare. Finally, Menyama Beraya Culture moderates the relationship between family resources and the financial inclusion of family business actors in Balinese villages in Mataram City during the COVID-19 pandemic.
