Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University as Resource Person for Environmental Management and Compilation of the Balinese Cultural Heritage Storyline

An important study activity in an effort to preserve Balinese cultural heritage was carried out from 17 to 28 July 2023 by the Cultural Preservation Center Region XV, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. This activity is a serious attempt to dig deeper into the Tebing Gunung Kawi Temple, the Tebing Kelebutan Temple, and the Yeh Pulu Relief in the Gianyar Regency, Bali Province, which are thought to be historic cultural heritage.

Interestingly, Prof. Ir. I Wayan Redana, MA.Sc., Ph.D. and Dr. Eng. Ni Made Pertiwi Jaya, S.T., M.Sc., M.Eng has been selected as the "Informant Team" for technical experts who will play a central role in this activity. The Cultural Preservation Center Team involved Prof. I Wayan Redana as Hydrologist and Dr. Ni Made Pertiwi Jaya as an Environmental Engineering Expert, who will work closely with Classical Archeology Expert, Chaidir Ashari, S.Hum., M.Hum., from the University of Indonesia. Prof. I Wayan Redana and Dr. Ni Made Pertiwi Jaya was involved in this activity which was the first time (pilot project) in Bali to see the background of the expertise that she has and the many contributions that have been made in her field of expertise, which is very much needed in the environmental management of historic sites in Indonesia.

Prof. I Wayan Redana is a Professor and Lecturer in the Civil Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University. His research experience in the field of hydrology, especially groundwater, and geotechnical is important in this study. Dr.'s experience Ni Made Pertiwi Jaya, a Lecturer in the Environmental Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University, also has extensive experience in environmental engineering. For more than two decades, he has been actively involved in projects related to environmental studies supported by doctoral credentials in the field of environmental science and engineering and certification of Major Environmental Engineer expertise.

In an exclusive interview, Dr. Ni Made Pertiwi Jaya expressed great enthusiasm for this project. He hopes that the environmental management study and storyline preparation activities will have a positive impact on preservation and a deeper understanding of historic cultural heritage in Bali. In addition, Dr. Ni Made Pertiwi Jaya also invites local communities to be actively involved in efforts to preserve the cultural heritage which is the wealth of the nation.

This activity aims to explore physical and non-physical environmental data, as well as historical flow, information, and narration for storyline preparation, as well as formulating plans for site environmental management. Changes in environmental conditions have created fundamental problems with regard to damage to cultural heritage buildings or what are known as living monuments. With this activity, it is hoped that it will produce important discoveries that can help efforts to preserve the historic sites of the Gunung Kawi Cliff Temple, Kelebutan Cliff Temple, and the Yeh Pulu Relief. We hope that this environmental management study and storyline development activity will be a positive first step in preserving and appreciating cultural heritage in Bali, and making ancestral heritage a source of inspiration for future generations.
