International Cooperation Development of the Faculty of Engineering and NGO Life with Friends on the Earth (LIFE) Japan

On Monday, August 15, 2022, a meeting was held between the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University and the Japanese NGO Life with Friends on the Earth (LIFE) to discuss the ongoing cooperation and future development. The meeting was held in the Dean's Room of the Faculty of Engineering, Bukit Campus, Udayana University. The Faculty of Engineering who attended this meeting were Mr. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, ST., Ph.D. as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. I Nyoman Suprapta Winaya, ST., MA.Sc., Ph.D. as Deputy Dean, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Planning, and Mrs. Ir. Kadek Diana Harmayani, ST., MT., Ph.D., IPM. as the Coordinator of the Environmental Engineering Study Program with representatives of Lecturers and Students of the Environmental Engineering Study Program. LIFE Japan who attended this occasion were Mr. Yushi Yamada who is the Project Manager of NGO LIFE Japan.

 

The MoU between Udayana University and LIFE with an office in Tokyo, Japan was made in 2020. The scope of the MoU between the two institutions, namely Udayana University as a university and LIFE as an international NGO covers four things, namely the implementation of teaching, research and community service in a comprehensive manner. together, exchange of educators and students between the two institutions, professional development of educators and education personnel, as well as sharing and preparation of teaching materials and resources.

 

As a follow-up to the MoU which was ratified in 2020, the Environmental Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University, collaborated with LIFE Japan through the Yeh Sudamala (YES) Project program. This program is a Community Service activity in planning and building a clean water supply system in Pedawa Village, Banjar District, Buleleng Regency. With the limited conditions of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Team in Japan can still carry out activities with support in the form of technical assistance from the Udayana University, in this case the Environmental Engineering Study Program.

 

Mr. Prof. I Nyoman Suprapta Winaya, ST., MA.Sc., Ph.D. as the Deputy Dean, the Deputy Dean for Academic and Planning, conveyed his hope to be able to develop collaboration in other activities, such as research activities, where in the Faculty of Engineering there are also other study programs that develop research related to environmental management.

 

In the future, the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University and LIFE Japan will develop cooperation in other activities. Activities that will be collaborated are not only community service but also research activities. The scope of activities is directed at environmental engineering, such as clean water and waste management. In addition, the next planned activities do not rule out the possibility of involvement of other supporting fields, such as the activities that have been running, which involve lecturers from the Civil Engineering Study Program and the Mechanical Engineering Study Program.
