Vaccination for Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Batuan Village with Students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University and the Gianyar Regency Agriculture Office
Students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FVM), Udayana University and KKN PPM students of Udayana University for the 2022 period together with the Gianyar Regency Agriculture Service participated in the implementation of the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination in Batuan Village, Gianyar Regency (25/07/2022). Foot and Mouth Disease is caused by a virus from the Picornaviridae family. This disease is prone to attack hoofed animals. This vaccination is carried out to prevent the spread of Foot and Mouth Diseases in Indonesia, one of which is in Bali.
This FMD vaccination was carried out together with representatives from the Gianyar Regency Agriculture Office, drh. I Made Astawa as a veterinarian from Gianyar Regency along with his colleagues named I Made Payu and Gede Adi Wiranata. This vaccination is expected to help suppress the spread of FMD that attacks livestock in Indonesia. In addition, this activity can also increase the level of knowledge of farmers and awareness of the spread of the FMD virus. Vaccination was carried out in several banjars in Batuan Village, such as Banjar Lantangidung, Banjar Jeleka, Banjar Tengah, Banjar Bucuan, and Banjar Gerih. The vaccination activity was a follow-up vaccination activity on the 5th day which was carried out in Gianyar Regency which was also carried out the day before in Batubulan Village. Vaccination was carried out from 8.30 am to 1 pm.
With the implementation of this vaccination, many farmers in Batuan Village find it helpful to have free FMD vaccinations and gain knowledge related to FMD. In addition, this activity also has a positive impact on the volunteers who are students of the FVM Udayana University on duty because by holding this activity volunteers can participate in learning in self-development and increase the experience of Udayana University Community Service Program students who participate also feel helped and have the opportunity to can include this vaccination activity into the auxiliary program that is included in the work program of the Udayana KKN PPMPeriod XXV 2022. This series of FMD vaccinations will be continued thoroughly in other villages in Gianyar Regency and throughout the island of Bali.
