Realization of Cooperation, Unud FTP Lecturers Carry out Biodiversity Management Activities in Matotonan Village and Madobag Village, Kec. South Siberut, Mentawai Islands
The Faculty of
Agricultural Technology, Udayana University has signed a Cooperation Agreement
(PKS) with the Department of Environment and Hygiene of the Mentawai Islands
Regency Government on the Implementation of Regency/City Biodiversity
Management at the Environment and Hygiene Service from June 14th ,
2022 to June 14th , 2023. Purpose and The purpose of this PKS is as
a joint effort to utilize, optimize and utilize the available resources to
carry out a mentoring program on Biodiversity Management that is focused on
developing bamboo as a conservation plant and utilizing critical lands along riverbanks.
The realization of this
PKS has been carried out by the lecturer of the Agricultural and Biosystem
Engineering Study Program, Mrs. Dr. Ir. Pande Ketut Diah Kencana, MS. The
activities carried out by Biodiversity Management are Bamboo which includes the
selection of nursery places close to water sources and making seed houses
carried out by 8 groups in 2 villages namely Madobag Village and Matotonan
Village, Kec. South Siberut, Mentawai Islands. The 8 groups are spread over 8
Dusun such as; 1. Kinikdok hamlet group (Matotonan Village), 2. Ugai group, 3.
Sereming group, 4. Malabaet group, 5. Madobag group, 6. Kulukubuk group, 7.
Malelet group, 8. Mangorut group (7 groups in the village madobag). Previously
it had been formed Mixing growing media for tissue culture seeds, Separation of
tissue culture seeds and planting in polybags, Preservation of seeds in
polybags for 4-5 months, Making holes 1 month before planting seeds and
Planting bamboo seedlings in the field and Maintenance of bamboo plants after
planting.
Mrs. Dr. Ir. Pande Ketut
Diah Kencana, MS. Reporting that the current activity is a continuation of the
study activities carried out by the team last year (June 2021). The team
involved is from the environment, tourism, electrical engineering (there is a
bamboo biomass power plant), bamboo building engineering and food. In the
sustainability of the program implemented, it is hoped that it can assist the
Management of Biodiversity in Matotonan Village and Madobag Village, Kec. South
Siberut, Mentawai Islands especially Bamboo, he also said it was hoped that
this mentoring activity could have a positive impact on all farmer groups who
received the training program and bamboo plants could grow and become one of
the biodiversity developed in the Mentawai Islands, in the future training will
be provided related to processing parts of the bamboo plant as derivative
products such as food, especially the stems for raw materials for UMA houses
(original buildings of the Mentawai tribe), considering that currently houses
are made of wood, so that it will be able to reduce forest clearing, bonded as
an energy source to develop typical product of the Mentawai Islands.
