In order to increase the population and production of Bali cattle, the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of the Province of Bali held technical guidance on livestock management. This activity was held on Thursday, July 14, 2022, which was held at Adi Assri Beach Resort Pemuteran Gerokgak Buleleng. In this activity the Department of Agriculture and Food Security of the Province of Bali invited four speakers, including from BPTU HPT Denpasar, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University, Denpasar Veterinary Center, and BPTP Denpasar. The speaker from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University was Dr. dr. I Gusti ngurah Bagus Tri Laksana, M.Kes who was a Veterinary Reproductive and Midwifery Lecturer. Participants of this Technical Guidance activity are the beneficiaries of livestock assistance by the government to livestock groups in Sumber Kelampok Village, Gerokgak District, Buleleng Regency.
This livestock management Technical Guidance event was conducted by Panel Discussion. The Panel Discussion is divided into Two Sessions. The first session started from 10:15 am until 12:30 pm and was filled by two speakers, namely drh. I Gusti Putu Ngurah Raka from BPTU HPT Denpasar about Bali cattle farming and Dr. dr. I Gusti Ngurah Bagus Tri Laksana, M.Kes on Bali Cattle Reproduction Techniques. Meanwhile, the second session of the Panel Discussion was held from 13.30 pm to 16.00 pm which was filled by speakers from the Denpasar Veterinary Center with the topic the prevention and control of diseases in Bali cattle, and from BPTP Denpasar providing material on waste processing for Bali Cattle Farms.
In the Panel Discussion the first session of Dr. dr. I Gusti Ngurah Bagus Tri Laksana, M.Kes has commented on the reproductive problems of Bali cattle, especially about artificial (AI) insemination and reproductive problems faced by breeders. Many breeders claim to have failed artificial insemination and experienced postpartum disorders, namely uterine prolapse. Dr. dr. I Gusti Ngurah Bagus Tri Laksana, M.Kes explained that AI failure often occurs due to inappropriate timing of AI, i.e. breeders perform AI at the time of the appearance of vaginal discharge or at the peak of estrus, whereas AI should be done 8 to 12 hours after the peak of estrus. . The breeders admit that they do AI at the peak of estrus and will follow the advice of the informants. As for postpartum disorders in the form of uterine prolapse, this is due to the lack of exercise in bali cattle when pregnant and the resource person advises farmers to provide space for exercise in their cows when pregnant.
The panel discussion was warm and the participants were very enthusiastic about participating in the activity. Perbekel Sumberklampok who is also a Balinese cattle farmer also really appreciates this technical guidance activity. He also asked resource persons to provide advice to farmers when contacted via telephone or WhatsApp. The resource persons are willing to be contacted and will gladly assist the farmers.
